I played golf this morning a pairs game not unusual you may think, however the course was frozen solid and the greens were like playing on the road, however it was one of the most enjoyable games of the year, firstly it was lovely and fresh,no wind, quiet and very relaxed. It was impossible to hit it directly on 2 the green it was basically bump and runs and the greens were bumpy but it got the brain working, what was your enjoyable game this year and why?

Probably putting in a +3 handicap card earlier in the year, left at least 5 shots out there which is room for improvement for 2010.

I'd have to say beating Smiffy and Norm with HTL twice was pretty satisfying although to be honest Hywel did all the work particularly at Leatherhead. My front nine at Ascot (+3) was good but even then we were still only 2 up so it shows how well Smiffy can play on his day.

I'm not sure I had any one round I totally enjoyed but had patches, either a front or back nine where it suddenly clicked and I played how use to and how I want to be again.

Best match I have ever played in was earlier this year at Bearwood Lakes where my mate Norman and I took on two members there. We were playing matchplay and got to the turn all square and all had 17 points on our cards, which shows how close it was.
We went 2 down early in the back 9 but a birdie by myself on the par 3 14th and solid pars on the 16th saw us get the match back to all square. We all parred the 17th and stood on the 18th still all square. I commented that it would be a shame for anyone to lose the match and a half would be a fair result but Norman had other ideas and made a terrific birdie from the worst lie he had had all day. Rammed a 3 wood onto the green from deep doo doo and canned the putt. Our opponents were gutted, and to be honest I felt a bit guilty on taking their money as the day had been really terrific. Great company, great weather and a superb course. It could not have been better. Both of our opponents ended up with 35 points, Norman had 36 and I had come in with 37, which I felt was a superb effort bearing in mind I had never played the course before and it was playing all it's length off the whites. As I say, it's the best match I have played in in over 20 years of hitting a golf ball and I doubt if it will ever be bettered.

My friend and i got beat in the semi's of our club's doubles this year. We were both under par, playing really well and although we lost it was a great game.

I guess the finish at Lydd where I needed to chip and putt on the 18th to tie with MWJ and Leftie was enjoyable too. I think we all had some good holes (not the first as I stuck my tee shot OB so far left it cleared the river and ended up in a field on the other side - I got it back by nipping into the field while playing the 2nd!!). I had a good spell from 2-6 and Leftie played the holes round the turn well. MWJ and HTL would have a spectacular hole (birdie net eagle) and then a few bad ones. The fact that from 13-16 the course was bland and a building site took the gloss off the match. Great value for money in terms of the green fee (and full English thrown in) but the course isn't great.

It is pretty poor but they have got a few good holes. Sadly the bad ones outnumber these and the overal feel of the place is one of a desolate and soulless place. The fact that we played on a sunny and windy day in March on a Saturday with a club competition on and there were only 20 cars (including ours) in the car park and we saw three groups out all day makes you wonder.

The range wasn't bad and nor was the short game area but the fact the clubhouse stopped doing any food at 3.00pm (thanks for telling us when you served our breakfast) didn't win it any points. Not one on the must play list but if you are ever in that part of Kent and need a game its easy to get on and is cheap

I was lucky enough to play at Kingsbarns with my pal Aly. We were told that we couldn't go out as a two ball and would have to play with an Italian couple. On being introduced to the couple by the starter he told us that she was a professional golfer who had played on the european womens tour.
As if there wasn't enough to think about teeing off at Kingsbarns with everyone watching. I was lucky enough to play my best round of the year and played the back nine in one over. However both Aly and I were treated to a lesson in course management as our playing partner birdied the first four holes and shot a scratch 70. She kept laying up to her favourite wedge distance of about 100 yards and on all but one occasion pitched to within 6 ft. They were both great playing partners and made this a truly memorable day.

without shadow of a doubt, Kingsbarns in May. Beautiful day, beautiful course and because we made the effort and spent the money we made sure we enjoyed it. Shot a good score and i can remember pretty much every single shot.

I think two stand out.
The first was a friendly with my mate Rob at Trent Park. It's a Crown Golf muni in North London. Neither of us had played it previously and it was a little busy. I don't think we broke any records but it was just one of those days where nothing seemed to matter and no-one was in a hurry. A gem of a day.
The second was match play at Chesfield Downs, up against one the best players in the society. One of those days when almost everything goes right, halving holes you really have no right to, winning others that seemed impossible, and best of all, you are both playing well.

Not my best round or even the best course I played, but a late summers afternoon playing at Rutland Water.
Sun out, gentle breeze coming off the water, good company, great views and first time I ever had 5 birdies in a round, including all 4 par 5's.

This might be a ridiculously stupid question but Why on earth would a golf club let its members out on a frozen course....
When grass is frozen its brittle and breaks under foot causing it to die...
Also the Grass on a green will get burnt from people pounding about on it....
Over here they'll close the course completely until its playable..

Back 9 at Powfoot on this years holiday in September. Scored 31 points in total - 10 on the front 9 :D On the back 9 i birdied 13 & 14 and lipped out on the next 3 for more birdies, finishing with a regulation par on the last. Also, playing Southerness in what was classed as 'calm' conditions was a highlight - superb course.
On my own course it has to be every match i played to win the net matchplay in my first year at the club. :D

Ballyliffan Old Links on this this years trip this now my favourite course ever was +3 for 12 holes then we got stuck behind Yanks playing in 4 balls with caddies and they were proper hackers end up playing to my handicap.
The reason it was so enjoyable was i hit a 7 iron 220 yard on on hole then on the next could only hit it 120 yards ,links golf at its best ,roll on next year when we go back there to play both courses this time.

Mine was in the summer at Aylesbury Park. My first as a member. Didn't play particularly well but there was a point in the year when even playing golf looked like it may not happen let alone joining a club again. So actually being able to play as a member was as enjoyable as it gets - the company wasn't bad either. Thanks CVG

First round in championship this year. Leading until the scratch and low low boys came in.

Andy

I joined a club this year, so entered a few comps. Not scored well, but enjoyed all of them. Just getting out on ANY course is always pleasurable with the right company. I hope 2010 is going to be just as enjoyable.
