More freebies from SKY

.........for an extra tenner a month for the HD or did you already have HD??

No, I had a 1st Gen Standard Sky+ Box before. I'm being upgraded to a Sky+HD box (that's the standard now) but decided against the £10 HD a month for now. Will be thinking about it, but I now have the box and will just need the channels unlocking if I decide to go for it.

You get the "free" HD channels anyway; BBC, ITV etc (I think there's 5 in total).

I could have had HD half price for 6 months, but still not sure if it's worth the extra money to me as I don't have the movie channels, only the sports.

I love the look of HD, I just refuse to pay for it.

I'm just glad I will have a new box with a proper amount of recorded programming storage AND it was free. Usually you have to at least pay for the install. Well it used to be like that if you were already a customer.

Apparently they do Video On Demand now too, but you have to have their broadband. Shame.

I pay the £10 a month for HD but i think its worth it as all i ever watch is sport. The ryder cup in HD was superb - The cricket is brilliant as is the football and as a bonus Di Stewart looks fitter than ever

Phone up and ask to cancel and you will get it for £1 a month ... I did.

Marvellous.

Sky man rocks up at 8am. Gone by 10 past and I'm now with shiney new HD box. Planner is already filled with stuff to record and the free HD channels look pretty good.

Win.

HD for the golf (or football) is a must. Watching sport on regular Sky sport channels is like someone smeared the screen with an oil cloth. Once you've seen it in HD, you'll be smitten and you won't want to go back..

If you watch a lot of sport, the extra cost is totally worth it.

I was thinking that this morning, and I only watched for 5 minutes.

I compared BBC One HD to the normal BBC One and it looks utterly [****] in comparison.

Then I flicked it onto Sky Sports 1 and everything looked blurry. I'm fairly sure the picture quality wasn't that bad yesterday on my old box. I'm pretty sure the channels are coded like that to have a terrible picture so you upgrade! Sneaky bastards!

I definately think they make it look worse on the normal channels. As my brother in law just got a new tv with hd and his normal sky sports is a lot worse quality than what i get with my virgin cable. Pretty sneaky!

You need to check the settings on your Sky box and TV. My SD channels have a very good picture, but HD is better.

Might also be good to strip off all the digital picture trickery on the TV, as recommended by the specialist TV and video magazines.

Most LCD/plasma have a range of digital picture enhancements, intended to reduce digital noise or to enhance the picture in some way or other, but many experts think these cause more problems than they solve, so recommend switching them off. Also, setting the brightness and colour at about 50% and contrast to about 65% is also good.

You can also get a DVD which has a THX calibration sequence on it. You don't need to have a THX system (who does?) to use it. This is a test and calibration package you can run through to set up the TV for optimal viewing. It uses contrast panels and stuff like that which you use a guide to tweaking the picture.it will walk you through it. Pirates of the Caribbean DVD has this, and so does Star Wars - Revenge of the Sith.

Just got a flyer from Sky,free box installation,50 days free HD then £10.25 a month-It's up from £10 from 04/01/11!

I'm gonna buy a new TV tomorrow and finally got HID to agree to Sky.

Does that mean I'll get this offer too? Also, what's the best deal to go for - all I know is I don't want films as won't have time, with all the sport I'll be watching!
