Monty.......good for SKY....or not

Monty will get better with time,of course he has the knowledge but dont know wether he has a good enough personality.
However you cant please everyone and someone has to do it.
I do like Butch, usually says it how it is,and generally wants all the players to do well.

Monty is superb, knowledgeable, articulate , and offers a great insight into the game.

Mr Roe on the other hand is disrespectful, bitter and sometimes so far removed he's a complete liability. Roe can't accept other golfers good fortunes and victories without trying to belittle them.

You'd think he was stupid enough not to exchange scorecards on the first tee or something the way he bleat's.

Monty is OK but like others say he is still learning the job. He's a decent chap with good knowledge but perhaps not quite enough presence or personality. Roe is just awful - drones on in such a boring "I know it all" way. I like Butch - great character but his tendency to finish every comment with "WOW!" is beginning to grate.

Morning everyone.....

Thank you for all the thoughts....keep them coming

As always CM divides opinion....which i am sure happens as much with his golfing peers as much as it does with us.

My opinion has always been clouded by what i saw at Valderama once where he walked around in such a state and bawled out a spectator out of all proportion. Where a jokey "scues me" type of comment would have been in order, the full "hairdryer" treatment came out and it looked frankly pathetic.

But i was hoping he would be good and for me his insight just does not come over. Perhaps it is nerves and as i and some others have said time will help.

What has been interesting is the comments on Mark Roe....I think a seperate thread needs to be started.

What is clear is that in the current financial situation SKY will be the dominate player in golf coverage. What we can do is look at what we see and as golfers with our comments get them to aim high with their presenters

I like Monty and will take him over any 'guest' American they pull in who drawls on and on.
Monty is articulate and Knowledgeable plus he's been there done that and offers a unique insight

He hasn't quite 'been there, done that' as I seem to remeber something about him never winning a single major.

When he isn't talking about himself, or his 'team' at the RC, he is ok. Certainly no worse than the rest of them. Simon Holmes being appalling, Roe disresectful, Harmon patronising and can't get my head around who or what each of his eyes are looking at.

The whole crew need a rework in my view.

Not a bad idea. I like Dave Liv doing the presenting, and Butch is ok when he's not staring at you but I find the Euro Tour team to be better. I'd rather have Howler and Wayne Riley doing the PGA Coverage.

Maybe they should ask Gary Neville. He impressed the hell out of me on MNF last night, I forgot that Andy Gray had been doing it for 15+ years as Neville made him look like a total amateur! And this coming from a diehard scum hater! Perhaps he can broaden his skills to cover the golf as well.

I've said it before and i'll say it again.... Why do sky not take Wayne Riley to the majors ??????? He's the best 'on course' guy there is.

I like monty on commentary, he's been in most situations himself and knows the courses well. I think this time round someone must have had a word as he didnt talk as much about 'his' ryder cup team.

Unlike most people on hear i can actually stomach Mark Roe , although he can come across as bitter. I think sometimes he is hunting for new coaching business, hence he criticises alot !!

I think Monty will get better with experience and some training and he does make some intersting points. Personally I have nothing against Roe either and at least he makes a point and is prepared to explain/defend it while Simon Holmes is the epitomy of a rabbit in headlights when you watch him. Unless it is swing related he hasn't a clue.

I don't know why they don't take Boxall or Radar to the majors but to be honest Clark does a decent job and it was good to see him do a few bits a la Ken Brown at the Open. Harmon is great value and Livingstone does try to throw the odd grenade into a conversation too which keeps it lively. I quite like the sky presentation and it is a million miles better than the BBC who frankly should do what they've done in 95% of sports and get out. Allis will be able to retire at the top and the others ca go back to whatever they do the other 50 weeks a year golf isn't on

But must say Sky should never use Butch Harmon, the most droll, monotone boring fart on the planet. He is missing his Roy Cropper bag, and thick specs. Fair does he is a great coach, but pundit not.

 :D

Really? I think the opposite! :D

With Monty and Butch, you have experienced golfers who KNOW what's happening in the game. Give me that anyday...

Can Mrs Doubtfire please stop tying every event on the course back to what "he" done or what "his" team achieved.

Its almost turining into a "One time at band camp" routine

Give me the Beeb team anyday - Wee Sam & Wayne Grady in teh box & Ken Brown out on the course.

Mr Alliss - pick up yer bus pass on the way out
Gary Lineker - get back to Match of the Day
