Mismatched clubs - how to get used to them?

Ok... owing to a supreme bit of muppetry, I have managed to lose both my 9 iron and my PW, and it doesn't look like they are going to get handed in to the proshop.

So I have had a rummage in the garage (where old golf clubs go to die, or at least get covered in spider webs) and dug out the relevant clubs from my old starter set.

(I'm Presbyterian so am loath to rush out and spend money....)

They are quite a different shape from my current set - I think they are known as transition irons - and have quite a fat bottom to them rather than a thin blade.

So I plan to take the SW and 8 from both sets out on the range to get a feel for comparative distance as I know that I might not hit the "old" PW the same distance as the "lost" one.

Any other hints?

I may well end up buying replacements as close as possible to my current set, but not yet.

TBH... My concern wouldn't be the differing head shape/type... It would be the unmatched shafts...

Just a case [as you say] of a good session at the range to get a feel for the alternative shafts...

The differing shafts might be more important if I were a big-hitting bloke with a fast swing speed and a low hcp
But I'm a middle aged woman with a hcp of 16 (going on 20) who struggles to hit the top off a daisy!

had to buy a new 7 iron as i left it at the range or on the course one day. got quoted 40 quid for the same club. ended up getting a nike victory red 7 iron and it does the same job! got it for 15quid off ebay.

yes it was a pain in the backside till i got this club. used a random MD 7 iron and it just didnt feel right.

Given they are at the bottom end of the bag I don't think it'll make a lot of difference
I'm not a long hitter so struggle to get on most greens in regulation, so the only way to get the hcp down is trying to chip and pitch as close as possible.

Since the course is so wet, it's the range for me!
