Members only!!!

So if you invite a friend to play golf, do you allow him in the members locker room, or do you go in the visitors, or maybe you go your separate ways. It's all bo**cks to me and based on snobbery. We have a big enough locker room with lockers for hire if needed and guests are treated the same as members.

Members guests are allowed into the main locker room, the visitors one is more for societies, although most of these are so large they take over every where. I think the juniors tend to use the visitors locker room as if it was their own. The whole thing isn't really enforced tbh. I get more annoyed with places where you get asked to park in a different post code.

This one of my real bugbears Bob.
I pleased to say that at Royal Liverpool we dont even have reserved parking spaces for the captian, secretary, past ladies captian or whovever let alone a members car park

Same for us , no reserved spaces for those who think they should have the privelege of not walking an extra 50 yards when theyre going to be walking 5 miles anyway

Guests can use any car park and all of the facilities same as a member. I see no reason why that should not be the case everywhere. If you pay your money and get lesser facilities it would come across to me that I was not welcome but because I gave income to the club I was tolerated.

Still, better that than some clubs I know where the guests are treated better than the members as the clubs look for more and more pay and play fees.

We have two car parks, but free to all, apart from Captain, Lady Captain and 1 Reserved space (not even Ron Noades has his own space and he owns the club.

In terms of locker room, we only have the one for the men, and no idea what the women have, as I've never thought to check (!). Although men's locker is members only, accompanied visitors are fine.

We have one car park for all. The only reserved parking spaces are for the Captain, Lady Captain, Vice Captain and a charity one that is auctioned off each year and usually makes a couple of grand for the captain's charity.

Oh there's a disabled reserved bit too, but I don't think that's a problem. :)

park where you want at ours - apart from captain/lady/GM, visitors are called day members and they get welcomed, a quick tour, course planner etc.

Mike H - very refreshing attitude from an old club like Hoylake

I've heard they have a nice little room with sofas, flat screen TV, champagne and strawberries

You should find out, do you accept the mission? :D

Western Gailes is a classic example of a club stuck in the dark ages. Its a wonderful wonderful links course and in my opinion only a lack of length has stopped it hosting an Open as its the equal of Royal Troon, Prestwick and Turnberry.

As a member you have to arrive wearing shirt, tie and jacket and also leave after your golf in shirt, tie and jacket as well.

However visitors are not requested to do likewise! Visitors can turn up and leave in golfing attire!

We have two allocated parking spaces situated between the blackberry bushes and the cess pit.
The one by the blackberry bushes is the mens captain, the other one is for the ladies captain.
Other than that, we can park anywhere in the field we like

Park anywhere except the usual (captains.lady captain etc) however last week 4 of us headed to Gracehills for an open comp and they had members area in the bar for food and drink visitiors got a corner with plastic chairs and what not, they never got my money anyway!

I'm so glad I stay North of the Border. Yes there are some clubs up here who are still need to loosen up a bit, but we seem to have it so much better than you see to have down South. I can honestly say I've encountered only a handfull of places where I've encountered problems like those described.

Now, where's my Dinner Jacket for the Goswick event ? ;) ;)

Park anywhere apart from the Pro, secretary, mens and ladies captain and previous years captain (why???). One locker room for all.

I took a look at the Rye website. They don't mince their words and you can imagine what the secretarys response will be when you follow their advice and contact him

Everyone is welcome at our club..Just the one large carpark... And also visitors and foreign nationals are accommodated as a pay and play rule that the club has.......There is often no need of booking for visitors except on competition days they can just turn up and play which i think is very good......it sends out a good hospitality message.......People even go there for party's and sunday lunch.......
Typical of us over here though.....We'll befriend anyone.....

Our club is open, Visitors have the run of the club which, if I was a visitor would almost expect. Being a member should afford some exclusivities though. I have to say every visitor I have seen through our doors (a fair amount as I held a society day there last year as my Captains Day) and everyone behaved exemplary. The members can be more boisterous and disrespecting I have noticed.

I really can't believe that so many of you are so far up your own self important backsides.

I don't belong to a club so all my golf is played as a visitor or guest.

So, by the time I get there to play, all the parking places in the "member's" car park (or to put it another way - the prime locations) are taken and as long as the available spaces are not miles away in a muddy field, so what? You are going to walk 4 or 5 miles during your game, what's another 50 yds?

Usually the member's car parks are small so most members have to park elsewhere anyway. Would you rather the earlier arrivals left the prime parking spaces available just for you should you care to grace the club with your presence?

As long as the changing facilities and showers are of a reasonable standard I don't really care whether I am sharing them with members or not.

Kid2... Not aimed at your post, just a "quick reply" to many other posters.. :) :)

I make you right mate.

At my gaff, the "members only" parking accommodates about 20/30 cars, usually taken 1st thing during the week by the vets meaning that all later arrivals whether members or not have to park in the visitor's area. These favoured spaces will be taken up for at least most of the morning and into the afternoon as the vets take at least 6 hours to play around (apparently), go on to play snooker after the round and, heaven forbid, support the club by having a couple of drinks and a meal.

Ok so we have got separate changing facilities. In the members area there are full length lockers that are used to store clubs etc so you often have to move while lockers are being used. If I am playing with members I will use the member's changing room. If I am with a guest, I will use the guests's area. Not a problem as far as I am concerned.

As you say, some people are too far up... and maybe need to get things in their life more into perspective :D :D
