Members - Clubs - How Far?

7 or 8 mins from house 15mins from work, handy for evenings, wish I stayed within 1/2hr of a good links course, had a country membership at Leven Links but at just over an hour each way I didn't play often enough to keep it going.

My mate from work plays at Colville Park and he is thinking of taking Country Membership at Craigielaw, it's £440 and next payment not till March 2016 as far as I know. I said to him to really think about how much he'll play as over an hour each way as well as having medals etc at his home course will affect it. Well worth the money if you do use it though.

I looked at country membership at Fabians place, a really good offer but they wouldn't be flexible for 8 miles distance wise. 50 mins or so to PSN

Woooof, thats a belter of a deal, can you not promise to drive the scenic route

Edit: Damn, i'm still 3.2 miles too short even on the scenic route :D

10 to 15mins by car.

The clincher is that it can also be reached by train - the station is just beyond the 1st green.

Unfortunately, the 1st is a downhill par 5, so it's more of a walk than it sounds, but it's great to have the flexibility to pop in either on the way in, or way back, from work.

For me, members clubs make most sense when you can pop in regularly for as few or as many holes as you like. This makes transport an important consideration.

Google maps says by the skin of my teeth, 1hr 10mins might give this some thought, got to end of. May. How did they measure your distance Martin?

They didn't Kenny, the longest route for me via Google maps was 52 miles, I asked them, maybe I should have kept shtoom and seen what they said.

Surprised that they wouldn't at ball TBH especially as they launched the membership deal to generate income and then knocked me back for such a short distance. Rules are rules I suppose.

About 10 mins away. Can and have been on the tee in 15 mins from phone call to teeing it up.

Importantly its 10 mins further to work so in the summer I have to pass the course to get home and sometimes don't make it without stopping (another late one at the office!!)

I am lucky in that I am 5 minutes away by car. I would not want to travel more than 20 minutes and that is one thing that has stopped me joining my old playing partners at Stapleford Park. My old club may have only been 10 minutes away but it meant cutting across the A1 and the drive was a nightmare that just made it a real pain. Aside from those 2 though, I have no other real options within a viable distance for me.
