I am doing some research into becoming a member of a golf club and I wanted to ask everyone who is a member; how long does it take for you to travel to your club?

Also, how far would you consider travelling for the right club?

Currently about 5 mins in the car.

Wouldn't want to have to travel more that 20mins, unless it was for somewhere like Royal Birkdale which is about 35-40mins.

About 20 seconds in the car and around 2 mins walking. I am very fortunate that I live right next to my course, I will be building a house this year which will be about 10 mins away by car, I would not fancy living any more than about 25 mins away from a course.

Currently 7/8 mins away

What the furthest , would depend on the quality really , last club was 45 mins , when you take in travel to & from plus the round and slobber / drink after the round the complete thing is just too long ..

So say 30 min max unless its special

about 20 miles door to door, takes about half an hour.

Championship links and the best course apart from Royal Dornoch, which is a good Hour. But Nairn i can play when i like, which wouldn't be the case at RD

Woburn is about 20 miles from my house, perhaps when the kids leave home I may stretch to the 35 mins it would take to get there.

Current club is 5 miles away, takes me no more than 10 minutes, last club was 6 miles away and took a good 20 minutes.

For the ideal set-up of a great all year round course, practice facilities, clubhouse and friendliness I would travel much further, chasing the holy Grail :smirk:

15 minutes and that's my max really. The only way I would travel further was if it was one of the Southport Links courses and they're about 30 minutes away now..

My old course was 15mins to drive to at 6.30am but 30mins to drive home, due to the way the route is different and more traffic.

My current club is approx 7mins drive to and from, but does cost me double in membership fees. However the expense is covered in the fact the course is one of the best in Essex. (3rd according to www.top100courses.co.uk)

I asked this question a couple of years ago when I was going through the same process, there are a lot of replies here:

I ended up choosing a club which is 15 miles away, but the only route is on slow roads so it takes me 25 minutes to get there. I love the club and I'll be renewing this year but 25 minutes is actually a bit too far, I agree with the other posters that 20 is about the maximum. I'm only putting up with 25 because the other clubs within range are nowhere near as good.

Useful link, thanks!

I am hopefully moving to Brentwood, so just trying to work out where's best around that area. Need to buy a house first though.... :)

20 minutes from home. There are two I'd join in a heartbeat (Blackmoor and North Hants) but they are at least 40 minutes and not practical for summer rounds. At least at my club I can get off the train in Ascot after work jump in a cab, grab my stuff out the locker and be playing.
