Hi, newbie here! We have a small golf club registered to the SGU, run from our local pub with 30ish members. A large portion of this membership is taken up by long termers who are pretty advanced in years with 28+ handicaps and find it very difficult to play a certain hole at our registered course of the medal tees, which effectively puts them out of the competition. My question is can we play our medals of 17 white tees with the hole in question being played off the yellow box. The distance between the two tees is never more than 30 metres and its a par 5 for both tees?

As a short term temporary measure, you should be ok. As the distance involved is less than 100 yards it is permitted without altering the SSS.

However, you must contact the SGU or Area Authority to get an official rating for this 'new' course. They should be able to do it without having to do a full rating.

You could just play all the holes off the yellow tees if there is a SSS for them.

Happy with all other holes off white boxes, just one hole that was a concern...both whites and yellows have a sss.

I agree that they would have to apply for a SSS for the course as they want to play it, but surely, until that is authorised, they would be falling foul of the rules of golf and CONGU regulations if they are run as qualifiers.

Not really. They would be playing the white course but shortened by 30 yards (ie within the 100 yard limit). All they have to do is move the day's tee markers from the white block to the yellow block.
I can't see the union having a problem in the current clime.

My only reservation was that the OP suggested that they were a "registered club" playing on a course over which they might not have the authority to move tee markers. I imagined that there were other clubs operating on the course - probably a minor consideration.

Thanks for your replies...yes other clubs play the same course and we couldn't move the tee markers but all our members would be aware of the situation to play of the applicable hole in question.
