Maybe it's not them, it's me?

I was speaking to a neighbour a few years ago and he was complaining about his girlfriend who had recently moved in.
''When she puts the shopping away, she puts it in any old kitchen cupboard and I can never find stuff''
I started to feel sorry for him.
He continued....
''Before she moved in, it was great....I used to put everything away alphabetically so I always knew where everything was''
I stopped feeling sorry for him. They've only got 4 cupboards.

But...recently, I have been revaluating things and I'm starting to think maybe it's me that's wrong and storing kitchen supplies alphabetically makes sense.
Is it me?
She moved out last year.

Does anyone else have any crazy/clever* system?

We have pantry, fridge and freezer for storing food in the kitchen so not an issue. Things in the pantry are grouped together - tins, sauces, flour etc, but nothing as precise as alphabetical. That sounds slight serial killer to me!

I suspect the problem is that what might make absolute sense to one person is daft to another. What is clever to one may be normal to someone else. It depends how your mind works.

I group things together, so probably like most people. Nothing overly clever happening there,...............or is it?

The rest is entertainment podcast this week committed a huge chunk of time about how people sort their books.

Alphabetically, by colour, by size, …

Life is too short to be arranging cupboard contents alphabetically. I’m borderline OCD about some things, but even that is a step too far.

Back in the day, I had a good few hundred CDs and I stored them alphabetically. It used to drive me mad if someone put one back out of order.

I've still got loads, they are still in alphabetical order, but no-one including me has touched them since the advent of streaming services.

No, I've not heard of alphabeticising kitchen cupboards before. Maybe the spices but that's about it.

For us you just put similar things together. Like, cereals, biscuits, crisps are broadly similar, they can all go in one cupboard. Pastas and rice together, all the various sauces together. All the sauces, condiments, cooking ingredients together. That sort of thing.
