Please help a really thick dad.

My son has some maths homework and has asked me to explain it. I ain't got a clue when it comes to maths.

It is prob dead easy.
Table has perimeter of 5m. It is 68 cm wide, what is the length ?
How do I figure this out please, so i can check his homework.

5m = 500cm, the distance around the table added up of:
68 x 2 (sides) =136.
Take away from 500, is 364.
Divide by 2 (lengths) =182cm

364/2=182cm is the length
 
Being a table, I would imagine it has 4 sides, with opposite sides of the same length.

For the problem you know one side is 68m, therefore the opposite side has to be 68cm as well, add them together and you get 136.

You know the table perimeter is 5m or 500cm, so take 136 from 500 and you get 364cm, divide that by 2 and you have the length of the other two sides at 182cm

So you know your table is

Yeah but that is a gorgeous table.
 
That'll depend on whether the vase is for Lillies, Gladioli or Sun Flowers, or smaller trim stemmed flowers like roses, carnations or freesia :D
