We have a knock out comp that is to be played from the coloured measured plates rather than the wooden blocks. One match played the entire match from the wooden blocks by mistake. They only realised they had made a mistake a couple of days later. What should the outcome of this be? Does the result stand, should the match be replayed or should they both be disqualified?
Thanks in advance.

Result stands as it was fair for both teams in the match and the result should stay in isolation but rules to be confirmed to all so it doesn't happen again.

That is correct. 6.1(b) says:

  • If the opponent does not cancel the stroke, the stroke counts and the ball is in play and must be played as it lies.
Sounds like the easiest way to gift someone a hole in one ... on a par 5 - just for the laughs  "go on, tee off 1 inch from the hole"
