Just wondering about your thoughts on this. Jordan Spieth, the last thing that guy should have been doing is put the jacket on the winner.

What other sport has the potential of the loosing participant having to present the spoils to the winner.

Just like these awful boiler suits.

I get your point, but, I was one of the small minority that doesn't think it should be a Major, however, I will concede it's it traditions that keep it special and any eroding of them starts to erode it's status.
Danny Willett already knows next year it's his honour and it's regardless of were he finishes or how he plays.
 
Why not. It's done every year and so Spieth knew sooner or later he'd have to hand a jacket over. It's a unique part of the Augusta Masters and every player I've seen do it have done so with grace and humility
 
That they persist, and get away with, the racist tradition of the white boiler suits is a greater scandal I think.

Dont really mind the jacket thing - its different from other trophy presentations in that it is the conferring of membership of a club by another member. Neat enough really.
 
Personally have no problem with the jacket placing, the boiler suits are another matter. However, as much as I like the asthetics of the course, I do feel that it's place as a major should really be examined and perhaps replaced by the TPC at Sawgrass.

There is no such thing as examining it. It simply is. It not something any one or committee is responsible for and can change. No one decided it was. It always will be.
 
I like the way the previous winner presents the jacket to the new winner. I am amazed that there aren't more people objecting to the white boiler suits. They relate to a less acceptable tradition at Augusta.

Sir,

With the greatest of respect if you think that is a "racist tradition" you are either woefully uneducated about race, its societal role and its history in the southern states of America or just looking for a chance to be offended in a vain attempt to look outraged.

I quite like that a past champion gets the honour of welcoming a new member to the club, much better than a committee man doing it (as I guess is what happens to a 'run of the mill' new member)

I don't mind caddies having a uniform/dress code, what seems lunacy is that in what's probably the most manicured course & event in the world the boiler suits are so ill fitting and appear impractical for the conditions/temperatures. After all the greens staff (perhaps doing a task more suited to an overall) all wear green polo's with beige chino's

Don't see why caddies couldn't wear something along these lines as a uniform

Traditionally, going back a few years, players had to use a local caddy who was almost always a black Afro-American. Suppose the wearing of white boiler suits was to make them look smart. However players have been able to use their regular caddies for years now, so perhaps this is a tradition that should be ended. Shorts and polo shirts would often be more practical.
 
The boiler suits on caddies look fine so all caddies look similar no matter what colour their skin is, keeps a neatness factor which is seen in all aspects of the tournament which is part of the tradition. We have endless old traditions in the UK kept up, should we get riid of them all? If it really was a tradition that was seen as racist then it wouldn't be continued. Go to all the famous links courses in Scotland and poor locals caddie for rich foreigners, it's called capitalism, not racism. There are black members at Augusta these days. For those objecting to white boiler suits, would green boiler suits be better or no boiler suits at all? They look neat and tidy, leave em alone!

Can't believe people think Speith wasn't up to the job and shouldn't have to present a jacket as he was upset, he's just come second in a major, won it last year, gets to play golf for a job and won best part of a million bucks for his efforts....poor wee lamb, life is hard! Some perspective needed I think.:(
 
I always find the boiler suits make the caddies look like a securing of evicence team at a crime scene ... nothing smart or neat about it, if you ask me.

I like the handing over of the jacket, though.
 
At most other tournaments, caddies just wear a bib with their player's name on it over their normal attire. Caddies are usually pretty well dressed these days, so I don't see why this couldn't apply at The Masters as well.

Just a thought. If you go to a golf tournament, you can only identify the golfers, at least the less well known ones, by looking at the name on their caddies bib. Just wondering if the players should wear shirts with their name and a number on them, like footballers!
 
Just read that while the guys who cut the crass wear polo shirt/chinos, the guys who empty the bins wear the same overalls as caddie's (just a different colour)

Every job needs to be done by someone of course, I just don't see the practical aspect of the same uniform for those two roles

Football style shirts, blasphemy!

I can hear the sound of cravats being torn off globally as members gasp for breath after choking on their pimms :D
