Why does ticketing arrangements, qualification criteria and the fact that not anyone and everyone can play the course mean that it shouldn't be a major?

You just said it's probably your favourite tournament of the year, is that not in itself more of a reason to be a major than all of the three you said that meant it shouldn't be?

Yeah I quite agree, I think it should be me who decides which events are majors

The TPC is also a great event to watch in my opinion but many many people don't think it should be a major (myself included) as it hasn't got the history.

The Masters field is too small and selective, how can it be taken seriously when there are guys in their 50's and 60's taking spots that could be filled by potential winners? Can't see Sandy Lyle winning again or Mize, Weir, Singh, Woods (in current health) or Tom Watson.

And do you think the ticketing arrangements are fair?

Each year I post up to see how griffy got on in the ballot - maybe just to give me hope.

Got it now - a bit slow on the uptake on a Monday morning.

A few guys from our club managed to finally get tickets and got the Tuesday practice and Saturday. Lucky Gits.

Guy at our place went in 2014. I'm not sure how he got the tickets (will enquire) but he said it's even better than it looks on telly. Hardly jealous at all.

The club is just elitist and outdated. I recall driving through Augusta on my way to Atlanta airport many years ago and were it not for a very small Augusta National GC emblem on an otherwise plain green gate you would not know you were passing one of the world's iconic golf clubs.

I popped into the local tourist office and asked how I could get a few photos of Magnolia Lane. The lovely lady there merely smiled and said "The postcards are over there, Sir."

Totally inaccessible to all but the lucky few.

Easy to get tickets to go over these days from here. All packaged up with accommodation and golf - can't see the issue.....

i was lucky enough to go to the masters in 2013, done the full 4 days. I have a friend in Texas who is a "patron" and gave me his tickets as he couldn't make it. Can't remember what I paid now but they weren't expensive, And it was nowhere near as expensive for food and drink in the grounds as it is at the open. Pretty good prices to be honest.
The course is spectacular and is very much a major course, but I don't see why the masters should be the only major not to move around, why does it have the monopoly on the first major of the year?

2 Guys from our place are flying tomorrow from Manchester to Atlanta, 7 Nights, Hotel, Bfast & Dinner, Ticket for Saturday and playing 2 rounds on courses nearby, cost just under 2 Grand each, all done through Your Golf Travel, extra £100.00 if they wanted Sunday instead of Saturday.
Apparently YGT took over 800 people last year.

Is it just me, or does it seem only a few years ago that you couldn't get a ticket for love nor money which sort of added to the allure of the event as you knew you'd never get there. When did they open it up to tourism and how many tickets are now available every year?
