Massive Putter grips - Real Deal or just another clever marketing ploy.

I went from a rubbish putter to a decent one with a huge ugly superstroke. Then struggled over the winter into the new season and got a silly notion of buying a blade putter with thin grip. Holed nothing for 2 months.

Back to the mallet head with ugly grip and results speak for themselves. It feels impossible to not take the club straight back and through.

Another convert here.......holing putts from everywhere since fitting a Winn oversized grip last week.
The confidence on the shorter putts it gives me is a great feeling....really surprised now when I miss a putt, whereas the feeling used to be one of relief if I got it in.

It's totally taken the wrist action out play. I added 24 grammes of lead weight to the head as well which really makes it feel stable.

Got a bit of work to do still with the longer putts before I'm totally happy, but I can say without a doubt I am a better putter with the oversized grip. :thup:

I fitted one of the really fat Superstroke Fatso 5.0 grips to one of my Ping putters and thought it rather robbed it of feel. I normally use Winn midsize grips and they work for me. I tend to be too wristy and a bit yippy with standard size grips. Superstroke have just bought out a 100g, 13 inch long 'claw' putter grip with parallel sides and I am tempted to try one of those. It would allow me to grip further down the club without being on the metal shaft.

bought a putter on ebay which had one already fitted - intending to remove it an put on a normal grip.

played with it and now a total convert.

could just have been new putter syndrome, but i'll fit one to the next putter i change to as well.

Nothing that a bit of lead tape on the head won't fix. I normally shorten my putters to about 32" anyway, which also reduces their swing weight somewhat. Not sure that swing weight is that important for putters anyway, as it doesn't change the actual weight of the head, and with practice you can get used to almost anything. It's not as if your putter is part of a matched set.

I can't abide the look of lead tape on a putter, or any club for that matter!

I'd sooner use something like tungsten powder down the shaft to 're-weight' the head, especially on a putter.

I normally use cavity back mallet style putters, so you can usually hide the lead tape in the cavity somewhere with a bit of careful cutting. Putting tungsten powder down the shaft may move the sweet spot, especially if the shaft is heel mounted.
