Married Couples or Partners both playing...

We both play and she loves it more than me, this may be down to the ladies members at our club who are pretty fantastic and look after each other really well !

it was a bit of a lifestyle change why we took up the game together as after my heart attack 4 years a go we decided that we needed to do more things as a couple and golf would be great thing to help lose weight and get fit!

best thing we did as we do a lot of golf breaks and holidays now and to be honest I can't remember the last time I have beaten her and it's costing me a fortune in the bar afterwards (loser buys drinks or tea) .

we even have a little trophy we play for now (bit of fun) when we go away and was quite a nice moment when I took her picture holding it up while sitting on swilican bridge, St. Andrews :)

my only concern is that she will soon have a better handicap than me soon booooooo :(

She played briefly but an injury at work put an end to her golf. Shame coz she'd developed a lovely high draw which, unfortunately, included when she was putting. She watches way more of it on TV than I do, and knows way more about what goes on on the tours than I. Not a bad caddy tho'.

I wonder if the dynamics of the Lusty Cup [and others] will change if a married male couple enter.

My wife does not play but has a decent knowledge of golf and the golf swing gained when we first married. [She used to come with me when I coached at winter evening classes coconut mats and airflow balls in those days]
At work one day a couple of her male colleagues were discussing how to cure a slice. She quietly offered some advice which both took with blokey laugh and a large pinch of salt.
The following week, after they found out that her advice worked, they asked her what her handicap was and where she played.

My daughter even asked her advice once when things were not going well when she was playing in the British Woman's Championship.

My wife plays a bit. We do play occassionally against each other but I tend to do the chivalrous thing and make excises not to as I like to spare the pain of defeat.
Yep, even both off the yellows I can't beat her. Mind you, she is 26, played since she was three, has Pro for a dad and plays off 3 and has to use mens regular XP shafts as she swings so bloody fast.
I wil triumph one day. Maybe...

My missus plays much more than me (photographing football gets in the way of my golf) - we've got a couple of mixed comps coming up which are divorce material though. We've had couple of golfing holidays too, Portugal a couple of years ago and Northern Ireland last summer.

I'd have to club her to death the first time she hit a bad shot and then laughed - I'm sure that the rules section would find something in the book that forbids this!

I've looked through it a couple of times and can't find anything that says its not allowed, I think you'll be fine!:D

My wife took up golf about 5 years ago and it's worked out great. She plays with the ladies on Tuesday's and also does a few opens with them. We play a fair bit of mixed golf and the odd practice round in the evening. I still get to play with the boys at the weekend, and off to Ireland next month on a boys golf holiday. Since she's been playing we've had golf holidays in Portugal, Scotland and Turkey, we're going back to Scotland in October for another golf break, so for me it's been win win.

Although I wouldn't be unhappy if Mrs Imurg started swinging the sticks, I would suggest that day would only arrive once Lucifer has built a Snowman.....

My late wife played golf until she picked up a shoulder injury. We played in separate gents and ladies sections, but also together in mixed competitions and evening games. Every year we had one golfing holiday and one beach holiday, the latter to keep her happy. Unfortunately none of my more recent lady friends have been remotely interested in playing golf. :(

Actually our club seems to be ahead of the game on that one, the rules say it's open to married couples or couples in a civil partnership. I think civil partnerships only apply to gay couples, so someone must have already thought of the possibility.

I know of several married couples who are members of different clubs. One is a Japanese guy whose wife is a much better player than him. He joined another club to avoid a loss of face. Seems to be a Japanese thing!

My Fiancee plays. Her parents play, so we took the game up together so we could play with them. She loves it, not quite as much as me, but she's more than happy to play every night after work and every weekend. Our family holidays are awesome, golf everyday, sometimes more than once a day and we all absolutely love it. Wouldn't want it any other way!

Mrs Chucker had a few lessons before Jr came along and could hit the ball lovely. Was slowed down with him but mainly due to suffering with eczema on her hands - no point making weeks of pain for a game. If any forummers have any experience of this condition it would be great to hear of any solutions.

If it were possible I think it would be great and would have no reservations about teaming up, playing comps, holidays, whatever.

I took the mrs up my course last night. She walked around while I smacked some balls around. She really enjoyed that walk. I think that's where it would end though lol
