Marker question

Can i also ask, if me and my friend are both members of the club, but neither of us have a handicap yet - can we mark each others cards or do we need someone with an active handicap to mark them first?

I joined my club at the same time as a friend, we were allowed to mark each others cards for submitting 3 purposes.. ask the Q.. not sure of the official line, i think its down to the clubs discretion.

This is not the place to ask. As per another answer, its down to club prolicies and you should check with your club. We only allow players with handicaps to mark newbies cards but that is our policy. Check.

I don't go along with that. People often ask questions about handicap matters and why not? Anyway, the basis of an answer to the question has to start in the Rules where a marker is defined as "one who is appointed by the Committee." That then leads to the freedom of a Committee to appoint whom they wish, but it is a freedom that empowered by the Definition.

My point was that nobody on here can give the correct answer as each club will have there own rules on this.

I assumed the answer was no, but i can not find the specific rule on my Q, so now i am doubting it!

Can a non member (ie a guest) mark your card for handicap purposes, either supplementary, weekly stableford etc?

If you play in an open comp and your card is marked by a FC from another club is he deemed ok by the club committee as they would not know who the marker is before the comp teed off.=== In a members club comp I would expect a fellow member would be expected to mark your card but NOT a non member / guest.

Here's the definition from RoG:

A “marker’’ is one who is appointed by the Committee to record a competitor’s score in stroke play. He may be a fellow-competitor. He is not a referee.

Remember 'Committee' is the group of folk who are running the competition.

I can play golf with my gf and she's ok to mark my card if I want to enter a comp, however, I cant do the same for her at her club. Go figure...

When my daughter was putting cards in for her handicap last year she was not allowed to go out in a three ball. It had to be just her and the marker. Anyone heard of this before?
