As you may have read in previous posts I have called my Cobra F-Speed LD driver after the Girls Aloud 'singer'. I have called it Cheryl because it is gorgeous, it makes me long ;) but it sounds like a cat in a carrier bag. If you look closely you will see me click my fingers when the ball lands as I always wanted to know my 'hang time'.

7 seconds !!! Is that good, bad or indifferent?

Go ahead, take a look at the swing and rip the preverbial P*** out of me if you want.

Nice swing, nice tempo. If I had to say anything it would be that it looks like you could do with more knee flex, particularly the right knee at top of the backswing, might be the light/trousers though!!

Cheryl looks like all these famous birds, skinny with big heads!!

Looks pretty decent Madandra, in my humble opinion you're knees are too locked at address, flex them a little, you're also taking the club away too much to the inside and you're a bit 'across the line' at the top of the backswing (pointing right). You don't appear to 'cast' the club out in the downswing which is good though and the swing is smooth and you've good flexibility.
I reckon the first 2 feet take away is key for you, during practice I was taught to put a coin down about 2 feet back from the ball on the target line and take the clubhead straight back to pass over the coin. I have a tendency to take away on the inside too so I have to think about this.

Pingpal, I totally agree about the club pointing right at the top of the swing and yes steve, more ofter than not my legs do lock(ish). I have tried everything to flex them but it just don't feel right. I am going to work on a few things this winter and those two are high up my list of 'not to do's !!'

I watched the first 25 seconds but you hadn't hit the ball yet and tweedy cheryl hadn't got her kit off so I gave up. However I did like your very effective "trouser hitch" at 15 seconds followed by a cheeky wee sweater adjustment at 16.5seconds. Nice.

Looks like you're giving these a good effortless bunt, madandra. High draws?

Good loose, flowing, natural swing. Paused a few of the swings at impact and the position looks good (even if I do agree with Pingpal about the technicalities!)

Course not, Andy. Although slightly worried about all these par 4s you'll be driving with the luscious Cheryl in your hands! Please tell me you putt like this, too?

Your swing looks fine Madandra. As has been pointed, you need to flex the knees at address more. You appear to generate a lot of clubhead speed but could get even more.
I'd say you've got the makings of a bloody good swing.
BTW You look like Sandy Lyle!

Hey, well done Madandra for posting this. I wasn't keen to see ms. tweedy, (being in love only with miss bertha from fusions-ville tennessee, a big lass, admittedly) but I enjoyed your swing!

I slowed it down and watched it a few times. Can I comment?

Feel free

OK, here goes.

I’ve only got 50% of the story (would need to see a side video too), so if I’m only 50% correct, forgive me.

You have worked hard and are striking the ball well. If you are indeed drawing off the tee with your metal woods, then I suspect this is down to a) closing the stance with your Cheryl and b) pulling off some serious magic to get the club on the inside. Given the position at the top of the swing the most likely result would not be this path, so well done to you for the strength of character to force this into place. If anyone wants to see the extreme of getting the club on plane/path from a position that wouldn’t normally allow this as the natural result, just look at Jim F. Can’t be all that bad if he’s in the world’s top 5!! You are not like him though, way better.

Firstly, as Faldo would say, KNEES - you need to work on your base. It could be the camera, but I would recommend some extra time drilling your knees into shape, the right knee could do with more flex and the left knee is not helping you “brace” the swing from the waist down. Your posture is fair, but I sense that maybe you started without regular tuition and your bad shot was the top, hence the fact that your head moves noticeably down in the backswing. This is a good players fault, but one that would find it’s own way with improved posture and base to the swing. I think you could get your hands ever so slightly nearer the thighs and the head up a bit, dominate the ball! You could try the beach ball Faldo (DL) drill or simply take a few swings clipping just the rubber tee at the range (since you don’t want to waste balls) deliberately maintaining your flex and actively keeping the knees apart. You can practice turning at home in front of the telly on a strong base.

Secondly, you seem to take it away well with no extreme inside or outside that dogs nearly all players. This is good. You set the club on a decent plane (although it’s hard to see everything with a low-frame rate video) and this is half the battle. BUT, somehow, you then get pretty upright.
At the top of the swing, ideally you want to be creating near-as-makes-no-difference, a right-angled triangle with your left arm, right bicep section and right lower arm. At the top you are pretty upright and would benefit from swinging a little flatter. Even Tiger has been working to flatten his swing. If you could get a bit laid off or flatter, you’re consistency could improve dramatically. Here’s a quote….

“Obviously, there has been plenty of good golf played by professionals with upright swings. My point is, tour players with upright swing planes would be even better (more consistent) if they would swing the club back and down in the same swing plane. The problem is that an upright backswing plane requires a golfer to manipulate the club into the correct (flatter) plane on the forward swing. This manipulation, or correction, requires timing and coordination, which has consequences regarding consistency. No one can have perfect timing all the time.”

My recommendation for sorting this out would be exactly the same drill I used about 10 years ago. In your garden (maybe not for the range!!) set up a tee and something to align your body (a club would do, or a length of plastic pipe). Behind the ball (i.e. further away from you than the ball) place an object that comes up to waist height. My pro used a large traffic cone….I had to find one after a night down the pub!! Set yourself up to the tee, lift the club up and sit it on the cone, then swing around yourself baseball style. Do it a few times, then go for the ball/tee on the downswing. If you have struggled with an upright swing and out-in path, this will kill it forever if you do it enough. I went from 17 to 10 in about 6 months using this drill.

I liked what you are doing, fix the flex, get the head (and spine) at a more constant angle/height, flatten out your swing and, well, you could easily take 6 strokes off your handicap by hitting more fairways/greens. Also, and this is the beauty, if you have been working like a blue-arsed fly to get it on plane/path, you won’t have to try anyway near so hard.

Take it or leave it.

I tried to edit my long post....and I couldn't, time expired. I got a bit carried away and sound like an arse.
Sorry, it sounds patronising and I shouldn't go overboard while I'm stuggling to even find the course, let alone offer tips.
