Love golf in Scotland?

Official answer: The history, the weather, the challenge..

Unofficial answer: It is so good that even Donald Trump wants to be here.

I love Golf in Scotland because anyone can play and almost everyone does play.

The friendly nature of the clubhouses allied to the fabulous scenery and variable weather.

Even in our corner of Ayrshire we have some amazing courses on the stretch of coastline from our own course at Bogside, Irvine past Glasgow and Western Gailes, Dundonald, Troon, the Prestwick courses, down to Turnberry.

Who needs to stay anywhere else.

My favourite memory of Golf in Scotland is playing down 18 at The Ailsa Course, Turnberry with a light breeze, the sun on our back and the lone piper playing up on the hill in the hotel grounds - amazing.

Ok Serious one now.

Tappie Tourie
The Postage Stamp

The Road Hole

Tappit Hen

In Scotland it is not just the names of our golf courses that are famous throughout the world.

Because it reminds me of where I'm from, you can just turn up and play and the members are uually very friendly, honesty boxes, links courses and varied and value for money golf, good banter and you can talk golf as everyone's played it at some point or has an opinion.

I love it because the hard and fast fairways make my 'thins' seem like proper shots that I meant to hit!

Also, because of the history, tradition, challenge, value for money, pot bunkers, penal rough - all of it really.

Great picture again.

Did anyone watch the World Pipe Band championships on the TV last night.
Glasgow with hourly downpours and glorious sunshine in between.
Watching them play in short sleeved shirts and soaked to the skin was quite magnificent, amazing concentration.

Field Marshall Montgomery band from Ireland won for the third year on the trot.

I think after playing some links courses for the first time up the NW coast of England, I can't wait to have a week (at least) in Scotland to sample all the things loved about playing this great game in Scotland.

yes, from a recent holiday - here's another taken 3 evenings before (love those parched fairways):

Makes me envious of one of my cousins. They moved from Cambridge 10 yrs ago and built a house in Fortrose at the junction of the main road and the road down tp the golf course. Beautiful house and only half mile from clubhouse. My cousin keeps on telling me to sell up down south and come north. She's right. Pity neither my cousin or her husbandare members - but we have an open invitation to go and stay with them or use the house when they are on holiday. Seeing the snaps of the golf course I think I shall be in touch with her very soon. And membership £364 - that's less than £1 a day. Oh heavenly bliss unbounded.

My nephew and niece are in a Pipe band that played in this...:) My metal head son met them last Friday evening when we were in Glasgow and they were down from Aberdeen for the Worlds. They got on great. Suggested my sons metal band introduce nephew on pipes to the band - they'd be unique. And niece on tenor drum - doing her drumstick flourishing.
