Love golf in Scotland?

Tell us why you love playing golf in Scotland....

Our favourite four comments will each win a dozen Srixon Z-Star golf balls.

Feel free to add pictures and video.
The excitement of playing in the footsteps of the great and good. The historic, lovely sandy based grass that allows your ball to roll and roll. The undulations that flex your imagination. The good people and the beautiful scenery. The excuse to quench your thirst with some fine malts.

On the back of one visit to North Berwick, playing the local links course there and attending The Open at Muirfield has led myself and my girlfriend to planning on moving to Scotland for good. Seriously impressive or seriously mad, we're hooked.

Not all of Scotland is like North Berwick or Gullane...take a wee 10 minute drive towards Edinburgh to Tranent/Prestonpans or Cockenzie for a more realistic idea of East Lothian...unless you are minted, then all of Scotland is indeed like NB or Gullane.

Not all of Edinburgh is nice, for every Bruntsfield there's a Pilton, for every Murrayfield there is a Bingham.

I love golf in Scotland because wherever you're going, even if it's to the smallest and most remote places, you can stick your clubs in the boot and you know you'll find somewhere to play. I can't think I've ever been anywhere that didn't have a golf course within a 20 minute drive.

Also, we probably have more high quality of courses per head of population than anywhere else on earth. There's plenty of room for everyone :)

Why I love Golf in Scotland?

I was lucky enough live and grow up in the small fishing village of Cruden Bay, Aberdeenshire. It was here where I first picked up a golf club and immediately fell in love with the game. Where else in the world can you get the "true" experience of golf from such a variety of links courses across the country? Links golf has and always will be my favourite format of the game and I believe Scotland does an excellent job at presenting these opportunities to us. I have attached some picture of Cruden Bay GC, often referred to as a "hidden gem" in the North East!

Picture 3 is the tee shot you face on the 15th Hole. It's a blind tee shot over the hill, you aim for a pole in the hill and pray! Cruden Bay GC.jpgCruden Bay GC 2.jpgCruden Bay GC 3.JPG

Cruden Bay is definitely on my 'must do' list - all the pictures of it I've seen look fantastic. You were very lucky to grow up there.

Looks stunning, more pics please ;)

Thanks Ian, sometimes I forget how lucky I was! It really is a great course and can be rewarding. However, when the wind blows it completely changes everything!

I'm lucky enough to have in laws 20 minutes away so have played it loads. My favourite course in the world!

Some great answers here but unfortunately we can only choose four. The winners are Birchy, Tommo21, Slime and r11John. I'll be direct messaging you four with more details.

Many thanks all,

Nick

What that means I'm not sure......nothing wrong with the pans or tranent and there's good and bad everywhere, N berwick and Gullane.

Good on you....lots of good courses and a few really good one's...all within a 30 min drive.

Oh I don't know, winning a BB County fitba trophy against Tranent AT Tranent was quite a scary moment for the wee boy Doon and his teamates. Mind you that was in 1963 and they still had the mines.
Probably a much punted posh Edinburgh suburb now.
