Lousy day on the greens

You must be a pretty good putter to get down to 5. Do you miss it both sides or mostly one side?

A bit of both really, the greens are a little bit bumpy at the moment which isn't helping. I tend to hit the putts too hard and they aren't taking the break I've allowed for. I have days where I put really well but I'm really struggling at the moment. I've ruined so many rounds with bad putting. Last year in the club championship I knocked it round 4 over gross with 40 putts :o

Would you have one big enough for Peter? :D :D

Golfmmad.

I think I know what you mean and yes, one size fits all
Isn't he 6'7"
Also if your left handed, right handed, male, female, 3'7"
it's suitable for everyone.....but then you all know that... dont you? :D

Simon, if your knocking them too far youre either swinging too far back or the right hand is giving it a bit of a hit.
Try a 15 ft putt and at the end of the stroke have a look at your left wrist angle. Has it changed from how it was at address?

I wonder if Bobmac was on Dragons Den? I wouldn't mind betting that you would have wowed 'em Bobmac  :) :D :D

Golfmmad.

I'd love to go on Dragons Den and tell Deborah what's her name to stop pointing, its rude.
I know 2 of them play golf and it would be great for publicity to see Peter and Theo trying it out and loving it

Go for it fella!!

I think it does change slightly. Is that caused by releasing the putter too much?

Ideally, you shouldnt release the putter head by hitting it with the right hand.
If you keep your wrists firm, the putter should release naturally with the slight arc of the stroke.
Do you have a video of your putting stroke?

I had a rough day in general yesterday but the putting didn't help. I played with Smiffy and HTL at Lethaerhead and there greens were much quicker han the ones I've been playing at Ascot and had a problem especially early on with pace despite going on the practice green first.

I had a putting lesson a few weeks ago and the pro changed my grip so my left hand was more down the side of the club as opposed to too far underneath or the pad of my left hand sitting too far on top and got me standing more upright (my eyeline is still over the ball) as I wasn't giving myself room to rock the shoulders. It was working well but in the last few rounds felt rather mechanical and distracted me from concentrating on feel and distance.

No I don't sorry.
I may well be hitting it with the right hand as my grip is quite loose. Could that be a reason for hiiting it with the right hand?

Simon, a soft grip is good in putting so I dont think thats causing it.
Without seeing your swing its a bit difficult but is your backswing quite short?

No I would say it's about average really It's the same speed back and through the ball too.
I used to be a really good putter but I've lost all confidence in myslef. The only thing keeping my scores down is the fact I'm hitting the ball so well.

Simon, as I said earlier, I'm sure you haven't forgotten how to putt.
I would suggest you go and see your pro and see what he says. It may just give you the confidence you need to get down to 4 or even lower :)

I'm the same. Only managed 10 holes today but three putted 4 greens if I'd managed to putt even half decent I'd have shot a couple over.

My trouble is leaving the first putt painfully short. I simply cannot bring myself to hit it hard enough to have a chance. This leads me to be a bit deflated and often miss the second as my mind isn't right.

If I may?
There's 4 good reasons for the ball to reach the hole so dont think about hitting it harder, think about swinging it back further.

Thanks, Bob. I think the biggest problem is I have an irrational fear of flying it miles past the hole so I don't really ever truly try to hole anything over 10 feet. The irony is I end up leaving it as short as I would long.

I just need to practice more. At the moment if I take the club too far back I tend to decelerate through the ball because of that irrational fear thing.
