lost your temper?

seen a thread about this on anpother forum, so just wondering have you guys lost of know/seen anyone lose there temper while playing?

i havent broke any clubs nor thorwn them in frustration. maybe slammed the driver head down on to the tee cos i just duffed my 8th drive, swear at my self and often open palm myself in the head (not too hard) and ask myself what the hell im playing at most times its a shake of the head and laugh at myself for being poop but knowing i can make the shot!

have got a mate who has a short fuse, when it goes wrong its stays that way and have seen him throw clubs OOB and kick his bag over

Yep, done all that. Have lost clubs up trees, broken stuff, kicked bags, had bursts of tourettes, helicoptered clubs, you name it, I've done it.

Don't want to, and go months without any issues at all, think it's cured, and then that one round, and it all goes to pot.

Thing is though, I am not miserable for the whole round. A short burst of pure anger, and then I cheer up. Better that than a four hour sulk in my view.

haha oh yes, I have lost my temper. Doing it less now though.
I have to tell myself sometime that its just a game.

Last week I duffed every single drive, my irons developed a hook and I had a massive headache. Happy to say I didn't lose it though. Only once did I throw my club! hahaha

Good thing that you didn't lose it then. Did you throw a provisional in case you lost the thrown club?

its very unpleasant and uncomfortable for your playing partners, very selfish too as they maybe feel the same but don't inflict it upon others

Dont lose it all on the course, there are more important things in life that cause me stress.

Stress/anger on the course only leads to worse in my experience, forget, move on, salvage the round. Better way.

I used to lose my temper a lot when I first started playing. Threw clubs hit bags etc but never broke a club. Now I just laugh at myself when it's going wrong and think it was just one shot, try and do better next time. It is very off-putting for your playing partners when you lose your temper and can make an enjoyable round not so much fun.

I never lose my temper on the course and I hate playing with people that do. Because all it does it ruin it for everyone else.

I'm 25 now, but in my earlier years I used to have an anger problem at times. And I've been involved in my fair share of trouble outside of sport.

But now I've grown up, I see that losing your temper in golf is pointless.

I think the reason why I have lost my temper is due to other things going on in my life which seem to build up. And so when I do a bad shot (well I normally get annoyed after the 3rd bad shot in row) all that built up stress comes out.

However, the more I play the more I learn that losing temper acheives nothing. And I agree about the tension caused.

If any of my playing partners start to lose it, I cant help myself but to chuckle.

If i know them relatively well I think a little bit of banter is neccessary! My old man ribs me all the time especially when im looking at a shortish putt to save par. (Ive seen those missed) being the way it usually starts...

Golf is a mental and physical game and if there is an opportunity to get in my opponents head.....Im in there, I am the same when I play rugby any advantage helps in my eyes!
The key is to not let them get inside your head

There's an old story about Tommy Bolt who used to play in the U.S. and was known for losing it on the course. He was a club thrower of some repute and one day after launching one after a bad shot his caddy handed him another club saying

"That one may be lost you may want to throw a provisional."

Brave, but not sure how much longer he kept his job.

Used to be quite a hothead as a younster on the course,played pretty good stuff so if had a bad one then the redmist developed and stayed for a while! Only ever broke one driver but funny how the red mist can turn the air blue!! these days have two sons to look after & introduce to the game & love it & do it with a smile no matter what,playing better & enjoying it more to boot because of my sons (AKA the Kray brothers!!).If im upset about poor driving day i just need to watch my 2 yr old swinging his plastic 7I around the back garden & all is well!!

I do not get annoyed on the course but have played with someone who does. Constant stomping and hitting of clubs on the ground or smashing them into the bag. The person once threw a club in the air and hit my brother. On another occasion this person hit a ball OOB. Put another down and it went the same way, but a third down and it also went OOB. As it was a stapbleford comp, 2 of us walked on at this stage and informed we were doing so. The person then dropped another ball that went like a rocket 6 inches off the ground into my trolley. I have no doubt it would have broken my ankle if it had hit. Needless to say I have not played with this person in some time.

I nearly lost my temper with one of my playing partners last weekend as his fannying about resulted in us losing 4 holes on the group in front of us and taking nearly 5 hours to play a round of golf. On one green it took him nearly a minute to get the aiming line on his golf ball lined up to his satisfaction before he took away his marker, then had 15 practice strokes. I wouldnt have minded but the putt was under 2 foot.

Smashed club against bag loads of times, resulted in 2 smashed mobiles
kicked tree, tee, bag, squirel etc
but not for many years, that is until last weekend..

We were playing a round up north, and playing for a lot of money so taking our time, until an agreesive 2-ball aproached us asking to play through. Couldnt understand why these two guys were sprinting round the course, but really put me off my stroke...

yep been here in the not so distant past. Got fed up with slow play and my own poor shots I should be able to do with my eyes closed. I also was getting fed up with the poor company I was in !! Driver went over my knee on the 2nd once in a foursomes match!! Selfish but satisifying at the time.. It was on its 3rd warning !!

Kind of chilled recently as someone got hit in the head on the range of all places the other month by his mate letting go of his 7 iron in a temper and was in hospital came back recently ( with big scar on his forehead) had a fit on the 3rd in the club championship (air ambulance etc) and now is epiletic!! mainly due to that blow apprently.. lost licence etc and his 30's. I feel sorry for them both as both good guys but hey as the man says it worth that at any cost so now taking the chill pill!!

I have lost my temper a few times. It's quite rare with me but does happen.

Not many things wind me up enough for me to loose it, but for some reason golf can be one of them.

I've never launched a club, came close a few times. I almost tossed my whole bag into the lake on our 3rd a couple of times but managed to stop myself.

Hit the ground with the driver after a bad drive - yes
Tossed my driver back towards my bag - yes
Hit a wedge on the ground after duffing it in the water (on our 3rd) and missed the ground and hit my foot - yes

But usually by the time I've got to the next tee it's out my system.

I use to be really bad but have finally begun to mature at last. I still have the odd outbreak of Tourettes if I have a few bad shots but the days of club chucking are over (never say never I guess). I have to be honest and say I'd rather someone did something like chuck a club, break it etc and get it out of the system rather than walk around with a mardy attitude, not saying anything and simmering away. It does make it less enjoyable to have someone in a right grump in the group but at the end of the day its their round of golf and probably means as much to them as mine does so I let them get on with it.

I had a guy in the Saturday roll up just walk off after nine a few weeks ago and didn't even bother giving anyone his £2 kitty money. Just came off the 9th green put the clubs on the back seat and went. Bad form
