Losing weight/fitness thread

Back and Shoulders last night at the gym, decent enough workout.
Anyone done a marathon on here and have any advice.
Been offered a place in 6 weeks time, longest run to date is 13.5 miles.....
Time wouldn't be a consideration, but I'd like under 4.5 hours 😂
My longest run was a 17 miler, then a month later did one in 5 hours. That was with walking the last 2 miles as I had pain across the chest and didn't want to risk it.

I reckon if you can get a 20 miler in the next 3 weeks then you'd probably be alright

Back from a lovely family holiday on the all inclusive. Lots of sun, walking and swimming. But much more food, beer and rum. Well worth it. First weight session this morning was a struggle. With only 3 weeks to the next holiday it feels like a bit of a pointless exercise, pardon the pun. But semi-switched back on.

Got a 24:09 yesterday for my 5k.
Ran 4.5miles on Thursday as well.
Shoulders and back done yesterday as well in the gym.
Still carrying a bit of a belly from holiday, really need to get dialled in on my food, as I just pour a glass of red 😂😂

Legs and core for me today !

Spent the last 5 months focusing on strength and conditioning, now am transitioning into more volume training. I’d forgotten how much high volume legs hurts 😳😂

Going to be an interesting walk around the course tomorrow for my active rest day 😩

That's got to be water weight...unless you've gone over your calorie intake by 9000 cals....which wouldn't be impossible for me.

3 day festival is 3000 cals extra per day.

Approx 200 cals per pint, based on 6-8 hours on the sauce per day this is easily done throughout a day. That’s solely liquid calories, factor in festival diet and it’s sorted.

Anyone use runkeeper? Went out at lunchtime and as soon as I pressed start it would vibrate my phone every 2 seconds, like a call was coming through. Didn't have any pockets on my shorts so just a bit annoying for the 45 min run.

Right, jumping on the bandwagon and joining the fun. No idea what I weight at the moment, but it will be about 97kg and it’s not great to look at in the mirror so now the summer is officially over it’s gym time.

First session tonight and eased myself in a bit with a relatively intense bike ride and then most of the upper body on the weights. A proper routine will be out together, but for now just getting the whole body moving more.

Resisted the urge to snack throughout the day which is my downfall. Food for the day was oats with mixed berries for breakfast, spinach/cucumber/tomatoes/rice and tuna for lunch and then some pasta for dinner.

If you want any advice, ask away 👍🏻
Forget motivation as well, it’s all about consistency, doing it when you don’t want to and resisting the calorific food when on offer 😂😂
Ideally, try and get the family on board as well 😀

It’s all about consistency and motivation for me.

I’ve got some good workouts from just before covid, that was the last time I worked out properly and dropped 15 kilos in 8 weeks. Gym 4 times a week and eating consistently healthy. That will sort the first 15 kg or so out, then I’ll need to pay a bit more attention

I’ve been following Alex Beevis on FB, he’s a PT that works specifically with men 35+. He covers everything from diet to exercise but the thing for me is small and sustainable changes were exercise & diet don’t run your life.

I’ve just ordered his book which arrives tonight, really interested in hearing his stuff based on being a 50yr old PT and not someone straight out of uni where they have a specific fixed style and demographic.

He also has a pod cast “ the real podcast “ on Spotify if that’s your kinda thing.

Be interested to hear what you think of his book. I follow him on instagram and his approach weirdly feels fresh even though it’s actually really old school.

I think that’s because he is being genuine, he bases advise and guidance on real life, real people, real world experience and knowing being fit and healthy isn’t about being Social media fit, but fit and strong for life. Not on modern fads, gaining likes, followers and only making a quick buck.

He does some good stuff so I’m genuinely intrigued by his book.

You description couldn’t sum my thoughts up any better. I’m intrigued about his podcast also but I follow several other podcasts which are weekly and simply wouldn’t have time, I’ll report back after a couple of chapters

Definitely a market for older PTs who are the same age as the people they're working with. The younger ones might know their stuff but I think some might not appreciate just how tough it can be for older people, juggling work, kids and maybe looking after older people too.

Thanks for that, just given him a follow on Spotify, I’ll listen to them later 👌
