Losing weight/fitness thread

Last swim of the year booked in tomorrow. Apart from a few games of golf, long dog walks to blow the cobwebs off and maybe the odd cross trainer session I’m going to chill out and enjoy the festive season. Eat, drink and be merry. Switch back on Jan 2nd.
The 2nd is a thursday, pointless starting at the end of the week, always best to start on a monday, (6th) 😉 😬😂

So the injections have been officially approved

Everyone was saying they would but they don't have medical conditions so I was just waiting

Should arrive after Xmas

One guy I work with been on 7 weeks lost 3 stone, he going to be on 3 more weeks then is coming off.. so I will be watching how he goes after that with interest

This, we’ve been hard at it for 3 months so having this week off, golf booked for tomorrow and Friday.

Fly to Rome for new year so I’ll be doing 20 thousand steps a day anyway.

That is a lot of weight lose, let alone in just 7 weeks. I presume this guy is very very obese?

When you say approved - by whom? Are they prescribed? You say your friend is coming off after 10 weeks. Does he just stop? Or is that the ‘dose’?

What happens then? Is this intended to be used sporadically (e.g. if weight goes back on)?

I love food and eating, and like you am always hungry. However, I would never consider this and would encourage making wiser choices and introducing better habits. Unless of course weight was a massive (pardon the pun) issue. It sounds like a quick fix for people with genuine health problems related to their weight who need to reduce it rapidly. It seems like it has delivered for your friend(s). But I do question the longevity of the results - and would be concerned about some of the side effects.

Sorry for all of the questions. Genuinely hope it goes well for you and be interested if you were to document your experience (good and bad).

He wasn't that big, he said he's down to 13 stone ATM so he would have been 16 stone which I wouldn't consider huge but then he is a lot shorter than me so probably would be obese

Approved by the consultant , the meds are private prescription. You have to be signed off by a consultant, for example my wife wouldn't get them most likely as she has a thyroid issue . And if you are not overweight (have to send a photo) they won't approve them for use (have to send driving licence to prove it's you)

His plan is just to get the weight off then not use it

My mate she wants to get to a goal for her wedding then will come off

Me? I have a weight I'd like to get to. 15 stone would be a nice weight then I'd creep into the overweight mark .

Obviously I'm under no illusion that weight will come back on so prob need to go to 14 stone then allow to go back to 16 stone and maintain

Now if you want to see extreme take My other colleague, 9k he paid to have his stomach sleeve removed . He been so slim since it went

His diet is crap now as he can't eat big meals so what he does is keeps my tuck shop going by eating loads of crisps for calories

Looks good tho lol 😂

I hadn't considered the injections but when you seen 5 of your mates on them losing weight with them and the amount I'd save on snacking (which I've tried to stop but let's no dwell here) it will be cost neutral

I'll see how much I lose by the summer

😮 Losing 19% of body weight is very significant, let alone in 7 weeks. Hope they’re being monitored in case of any other health implications.

Good luck with your journey. Hope the injections provide what you’re seeking. Will be looking out for your progress updates.

They do notify your GP of the injections so I believe it's then in their court to make sure all's gravy

Saying that these injections are being approved on the NHS for weight loss programs , which is good. I can only see it a good thing long term if people manage to get weight down and reduce the cost to the NHS for obesity issues

I have yearly medicals for my bipolar, basically just a chat but also a blood test for liver function.

Every year it's right your weight is the same as last year, my Dr knows I play golf twice a week but eat not great. Which is partly down to the medication he put me on the side effects are hair loss and increased appetite. So ill take any help available to drop down a bit

3 stones in 7 weeks is too quick. He may look great clothed but I am betting he has loads of loose, saggy skin as it won’t have had time to shrink as the weight came off. Also, unless he changes his diet when he stops the jabs then it will be back on nearly as quick.
Also, are any of your mates having the droopy face, sunken eyes effects that are being reported in the press?

Not all of them notify the GP.

Just ran 4 miles in 38mins, couple of killer hills as well 😂
Fancy trying a half marathon, but not sure I’ve got it in me, I know I’d need to train a fair bit more.
Anyone done it and how did you find it…..

I’ve done over 40 Half-Marathon Races and probably 20-30 more over that distance when training for Marathons, looking at your pace and factoring in the hills, I don’t think you’d have a problem completeing a half marathon.

The only if/but, is what would be your aim? Time or the Distance, 9 minute pace is sub 2hr (1hr 57mi ).

So if you “just” want to run the distance, the fitness level you have now would be ample to step it up and complete the distance.

If you’d like to run one in a “particular” time, then obviously there would be a lot more focus on the timings and distances to achieve while you train.

If you go on line there are loads of trg programmes for virtually every pace you could want.

Cheers for that Paul.
I've no time that I want to achieve as it would be my first, finishing is the goal, ha ha.
When I played football, I used to be able to do 7 min miles for pre-season, that was 20 years ago though!!
I'm listening to an audio book called The Non Runners Marathon Trainer, seems like a half is doable following a 4 day a week training programme.
3 Shorter runs, then 1 slightly longer.

Spot on bud, next step is to choose the half marathon and then start training, most trg plans are 16 weeks pre-race day, again this will depend on you choosing a projected finish time and then following the plan. Hardest part can be the commitment to the training.

Sub 2 hours is probably doable, so look at a 10min per mile plan, which would be sub 2:15 and see what the paces are like, if you think it’s a bit easy to begin with you can step it up, what you don’t want to do is to train too fast to begin with and risk injury.
You’ll be starting from a good base.

Big events like the Great North Run are very popular, but not if you want a genuine time, 60,000 people and it’s mental, it’s more of a tick in the box run.

Let us know if you go for it and what half marathon you pick.👍🏻

Well I certainly need to improve things as GP yesterday advised that my cholesterol is too high to be ignored alongside other familial risk factors - so been put onto cholesterol reduction statins (albeit a low daily dosage) with review blood test in three months.

It really is so random cholesterol, I don't eat amazing and I'm obsese yet my blood sugar is really good and my cholesterol is well below the bad range. Where as I know skinny people will bad numbers

Doesn't make sense!

Hope your tablets work

Well I decided to bring forward my first injection by 8 hours as I thought I'm going bed early anyways so better than faffing about at 5am trying to make sure I correctly follow the process for the first time

That was incredibly simple

Also very painless. I'm fine with needles tho so that prob helps (tiny needle anyways, safely put into the sharps bin they provided)

Already feeling very full (i did have dinner about 7 but it's like I've been topped up)

Could be placebo effect tho

Tomorrow is the real test. Only porridge and some left over turkey for my meals at work

Normally just porridge at 8 has me hungry again by 10

Although losing weight is to be applauded. If one sticks to the diet that got them to that weight in the first place, even in smaller sizes. A problem is being kicked further down the road. At some point there needs to be a fine balance between diet and excercise. Weight is only part of the problem. The others shouldn’t need to be highlighted.
Good luck to all 👍
