Hi i am thinking off changing clubs as our course is undergoing a revamp, and has been for a while but they are going to change it again down to 8 par 3s and one par 4 (364yrs), which imo is crap, maybe in the future it may be worth coming back to when finished and the Hilton hotel is built , but they are not giving us any time scale on this , which i am guessing 1-3 years ??

so does anybody have any recommendations on golf clubs worth looking at in the southampton area & possible approx memberships fees

Thanks in advance

Whereabouts in the area are you based? Stoneham is the best club, the municipal is also a very good course although a bit hit or miss condition wise. If you are north of the city, there are Hockley and Royal Winchester. If you are east of it and don't mind a bit of a drive, I would go for Hayling everytime, it's a really good track.

But I'm guessing Stoneham will be your best option?

No harm in giving Stoneham a ring to find out if they are flexible on the joining fee

I am currently trying to play more courses in the area. I used to be a member at south winchester, great place to be part of and a good course too! I will be joining there again as soon as I can.

Brokenhurst isn't too far from you. It's a decent course. They may have some deals on currently

If you fancy a round to try it out, drop me a PM,

(you should come along also Tom )

Royal Winchester is my course, really nice. Have only found 1 person I wouldn't want to play with in over a year.
Membership is roughly a £1000, then the joining fee is the same. But this can be spread over 5 years. But obviously the 20% gets bigger every year.

I've played Bramshaw a couple of times - 2 x 18 holes (Forest & Manor), £980 per year max, less for 5/6 day membership.

My home club is Barton-on-Sea (but that may be a bit too far to go from West End) - £860 per year, £1200 joining fee :-(
