I'd fancy my chances on a yd/lb basis though

i think he was just covering the guys he knows who really hit it long.
im sure you do to. and Brendy sure hits a long ball, but i think this BS comment is aimed more at 20something handicappers who are convinced that they hit a long ball

Thanks Murph. All hit a good ball that is true and it isn't bullsh1t to say all can crack it over 300 yards.. And I am sure Wull etc do the same.
As a betting man though, my money would be on Swinger. The ball he hit up the 18th at Blackmoor was probably beyond my capabilities. I don't think I could hit my driver that far if I stood there all day with a bucket of Pinnacles! His clubhead speed is very high and I would think he is one of the longest hitters I have ever seen.
Mind you, we both drove the 1st hole (325 yard par 4) that day so you never know?! I like the idea of a long hitting contest. If done in the right setting and spirit then it would be good fun if nothing else and I think it would make good copy for a GM article personally.

I think the worst thing is trackman starts are total crap.... when i got my r11 from direct golf the trackman said i was carrying the ball 275 yards, based on this it would suggest i too could have drove the green at blackmoor on the first. well one thing is for sure, i watched snelly's & swingers drive, and i know how hard they hit that little ball to make the first.. i could definately have not made it with my best drive, with my best swing, with a bloody hurricane behind.
come on GM get the long drive comp sorted, make it an yearly feature - biggest willy on the forum can then be waved.

So did I. But think it was an age thing? I am incontanant(sp?). But hit over 300yrd with just my willy. Drivers are for wimps.

I hit my chipper 280 last week, but that was uphill, into a headwind, with a range ball.

It's always hard to prove a lot of what is said on these threads so:-
I won the longest drive at Blackmoor, and
I have had a hole in one on a par 4 at 302yrds which slam dunked into the hole (all carry).

It always hard to judge who would be the longest as it could change from day to day.
I've played with Neil Tappin from here and he gets it out there. I've seen Snelly hit a drive at Blackmoor which was impressive and Justone hit a nice drive at Blackmoor until i got there.
It would be an interesting and fun feature to do a bit on longer hitters - Club head speeds, balls speeds, equipment they use and the way thay generate their power.
If a longest hitting comp could be arranged then I think it could be good fun, I just hope the people who enter don't mind losing to much because I won't be swinging at 60% that day!!!

Funny that,Screwback played with Owen this year and said he was a pea shooter and I twated it 15 yards passed his longest drive on 16 at Goswick and I am a pea shooter......wind had dropped and everything.

That would be the best bit, watching different swings, comparing people with stock equipment to custom fit stuff... i think to be done right it would need to be a video... could make a nice feature, with a more limited printed version in the mag,

i've booked my session on the trackman for saturday so i'll finally see what my genuine numbers are and it's indoors so no wind,downhill help or anything like that.i've been told it's pretty accurate so i'm looking forward to it.
If we do get a long drive GM event sorted, watch out for Jezz in the over 50 somethings. He can still put a mean ball out there at times and rarely misses a fairway anyway.
