Longest drive ?

Anyone else watched Golf World on SKY, just seen a brit called JOE MILLER win the world long drive beating Sadlowski along the way and a phenomenal 16yr old yank in the final. Miller drove it 414yds in the final. Awesome.

I did see that.

Do the long drive lads use crazy length shafts in their drivers? Or do they use what you and I would?

i've booked my session on the trackman for saturday so i'll finally see what my genuine numbers are and it's indoors so no wind, downhill help or anything like that.i've been told it's pretty accurate so i'm looking forward to it.

i wouldnt take them as genuine mate, i had a fitting at direct golf and their trackman was about 30 yards longer than course play, that was in good playing conditions too..

thats a bit worrying.this year i worked out my yardages from using the gps system and from the par 4's i was driving.i'll see how i get on,i suppose the one thing it will be handy for is the launch angle and spin because one area i would like to improve on is gaining more roll from the driver.it is almost impossible with our constant wet weather.

50" shaft and 3.5-5 degrees of loft. 1.53 smash factor although I have no idea what this means in real terms.

Also, he has hit a 350 yard drive with his putter!

i think their limits are 50" which i think is possibly the usga standards,i may be wrong but that's there limit with the driver and the size is also limited to 460cc.they all roughly use anything from 4* to 6.5* but some do use 9*.the shafts are xxx stiff and the average is 140+ clubhead speed with ball speed being over 200mph.in the semi's with sadlowski and miller they were both in and around 215-220mph ball speed.domenic mazza was getting 135-138mph clubhead speed.

One of the pros at my old club competed on the long drive circuit His driver was 4deg with 50" shaft. I never actually saw him hit it because he didn't need to on the course - his longest drive was 422m. The time I played with him he hit 5i past my driver, never seen anyone hit the ball so hard or so far. He was a hell of a golfer as well.

Drove 385 yards down the 18th of Luffness New a few years ago!

But could only manage 115 with my 'best' 3-wood in the other direction (on 16)!

Normally 240 and 200 resp. so an 8=club breeze?

Yesterday i was in the indoor range with American Golf and was measured at 263yds with the first drive of the day with my brand new R11, with a slice. Then all the subsequent drives that actually went straight only brought the average to 255yds. Hope to improve that with a decent ball on the course.
