Longest drive prize won by a woman

The last few times I've played in a corporate day or captains day they have dropped the longest drive prize, pointless for all but a few, and replaced it with a nearest the line comp. The line has to be a reasonable distance, starts at around 150-175 I think, but I much prefer that. Fairer to everyone and gender is irrelevant to that test.

So, as I said, you run a mixed comp but rig it so the women have no chance.

considering my society is run by a lady I think she does it pretty fairly lol

the one that did make us laugh was when the pro at chesfield downs suggested to our organiser that the 16th hole be the longest drive which she soon changed..

the 16th hole is a 525 par 5 for the males and a 395 yard par 5 for the ladies..

130 yard tee difference was a bit of a silly suggestion..

however I do make you right.. its impossible to make fair

I preferred the event where we run out of fairway so for myself it was a 3 wood.. for the long hitters it was a long iron and the ladies driver.. made it much fairer

with the longest drive its normally one of the 5 people who can hit 300 plus.. it becomes a who can land on the fairway comp between those 5

All Longest Drive comps I know of are split into Men's and Ladies, for exactly that reason!

Wouldn't have made any difference - she was the only lady playing!

I guess it wasn't really a longest drive competition, more a "nearest to the hole on a par 5 after one shot" competition ...

It is for this reason I used to resent paying into this on my club trips. A good ego trip for the bombers but of no interest to most in the comp.

because I know I'm not going to win these I don't need to get involved in the "lets smash the granny out of it" so just hit a relaxed drive.

One day I'll be doing that and all the big boys will have tried to hit so hard put it in the rough.. And little old me might win it

last event it was won by a drive that was about 270 I think.. However someone in my group hit is 320.. Just off the fairway lol first cut. Shame but I think the birdie made up for it

Played at a corporate golf day on Friday. At the presentations, it was announced that the longest drive prize had been won by a woman playing off 11.

I was genuinely surprised at that happening. Had a look at the card this morning, the comp was on a par 5 which is 486 off the yellows and 410 off the reds.

I assume she would have played from the reds, which would then have given her a heck of an advantage?

Had this happen to me in a comp recently beaten by inches seemingly , not bad as there was roughly 94/95 yards difference in the tees

Somebody did as was it nearest the pin or longest drive comp ?

never bothers me , I usually only have a bomb at it if im playing badly anyhow ha

Yeah separate mans/ladies comps seem to be the logical way (unless prizes are limited)

Not a comp that I ever concern myself with (although won it once with sub 200 after the rest missed the fairway!)

Saturdays was won with a 309.5 drive landing uphill which must've been cool to see but its a bit like a close NTP, if you didn't see it or hit it there's not much to get excited about

Needs to be in the fun comp days though as its a helluva skill to have and should get a prize of sorts even if its entry is usually limited to a handful

Another who has no interest in long drive events. We also run a nearest the line comp on Captains Day (usually the 10th) which is far fairer and open to all without any discussions on distant advantages for where the red tees are
