A slicer then ?What?
Those calling Muirfield flat are clueless. It is a great golf course with rises and falls, dips and hollows especially from holes 3 to 17.
Go to next years venue....now that is what you call flat, unbelievably flat.
Where in heavens name did you get that idea from. Because it's totally wrong!
It may not actually have many big dunes on it (though 3, 13 and 17 certainly seem to be 'amongst' dunes) but tha'ts not what all links courses are about. There are certainly plenty of elevation changes. Try walking from the 3rd green to the 4th tee (or green) carrying a heavy bag! Or over and down 6, then upt to the 7th tee and green, then down 8. Or up 11 and down 12 then up 13 and down 14!
It's certainly got more elevation changes than St Andrews or Carnoustie (where the only 'big Dune' there - on the 5th - is man-made) and probably more than Royal Birkdale. Does that make them 'boring flat' courses too? Royal St Georges isn't all that hilly either! And Bomber's Leven seems pretty flat from memory.
Perhaps you just have a local concept of what a links course 'should' be. That strikes me as somewhat 'narrow minded'!
