Watching the best golfers in the world have to land 50yds short and rely on a 'lucky bounce'. What a rubbish game. At least they land on the greens at Augusta (even though they too are super fast).

Empty stands, no feature holes and scores that resemble a monthly medal comp at my gaff and I'm finding the whole process rather boring to watch AGAIN.

Sure I want Tiger to win but this 'teeing off with irons' malarky just isn't the golf that we know and love. Hitting irons off tees is making the whole process even MORE boring, there's actually nothing exciting to watch

Apart from wanting Tiger to win not much to disagree with really. Empty stands maybe due to lack of accommodation and the remoteness of the place? But yes I do agree there is an awful lot of luck involved. Shots that hit the centre of the green should stay on the green IMO. Agree not the most exciting to watch.

I think the course looks extremely boring and if all of the Links courses in Scotland are like that then they can keep em 👎

Come on Tiger!!!

Yes but is there anywhere to stay near the course? Was not saying that was the reason just asking. From what I have seen the attendances compared to last year look poor maybe the weekend will improve. Does not matter if it is 10 mins from the capital if there is not enough transport links or buses/trains laid on. Don't know just asking.

Come on Tiger!!!

What's boring is watching target golf every week on telly. Links golf is in my opinion the best form of golf. Broaden your horizons children.

PS - I hope someone other than Tiger wins.

Think this thread has some potential:) Not the biggest fan of links golf. Went last year to the open at Lytham and was not impressed, would not be somewhere I would want to play often, just a bare piece of land in the middle of a Red brick housing estate with barely a sea view to be had

Who said I wasn't enjoying watching it? I said the course looks boring. I've watched 2 days worth of it and I'm enjoying it.

I'm trying so hard but my teacher says I am beyond help.

The course looks immense fun to me and I would love to have a go.

I think links golf is a change for the off occasion, I wouldn't like to see it week after week.
And to be fair we dont really see it week after week,

So just try to enjoy because i think links golf is different test, does rely on some luck yes, but you always get that when playing golf anyway.

I would like to play it once but I feel it would get very boring plodding around there 3 times a week, every hole looks the same. It wouldn't be much fun in the high winds and rain when the ball isn't rolling 100 yards extra down the fairway.

The weather had played its part for sure, would love to watch them tackle it in a normal scottish summer of wind and rain :D

Want to watch players who are up for the challenge, watching all these gasps and gestures of disbelief is a tad annoying.

Big Darren clarke is getting a late bet from me, would love to see Miguel claim a big one too.

Indeed, this is the mind set I'm trying to impart (although it doesn't help the boringness of the viewing). It's a form of golf where you hit the ball along the ground and hope it ends up near the pin rather than hitting it at the pin and showing how accurate you are from varying yardages.

I must admit to enjoying watching Sneds and Mickelson 4-putt and Colsearts 5-putt, but the pleasure was more that I want the rest of the field to go backwards so that Tiger can win, especially those with a shout of beating him..... (Jiminez to shoot 10 over tomorrow) :p

links golf is better when its dry. it becomes like any regular round when its wet. target golf and spinning it back towards the pin.

the open is a great test. the more baked the course the better in my opinion.

the us open has its rough, the masters pin postions and slick greens, the open has links golf.

could you play any of them all the time? not for me, I enjoy my summer days at the links but not every day.

I'm sure you're right but watching The Open tomorrow will be nothing short of sticking pins in my eyes ;)

(and listening to Peter Alliss for another day will be like sticking pins in my ears!) :D

I think the recent weather has had a big influence on how the course has played - the same is true for all of our courses. Played today at my parkland course and on every approach shot I'm thinking about clubbing down because I'm expecting massive run from a rock hard fairway and I'm wandering whether I can keep it on the green - the weather adding ramdomness. I'm playing St Annes on Sunday and I'm quite looking forward to the bump and run or putting anywhere near the green rather than having the decision of do I pitch/chip/bump-and-run. I'm also looking forward to no trees or water hazards, not looking forward to the pot bunkers or the rough - different test. As we all know its about hitting the fairways and greens, the Pro's are taking irons due to the penalties involved in missing the fairway and ending up in the rough. I welcome that because some of the PGA tour courses are a joke, they are not penalised for some dreadful driving into the "rough" or they can still get to the green from some "token" fairway bunker.

I do agree that this course hasn't been the best, the one shot that sticks in my mind was Westwood hitting a driver from the fairway, I dunno 250 yrds maybe?, anyway he nailed it got onto the green - great shot, then it rolled 20 yards into a bunker!! It was a very difficult, risky shot, executed very well and then punished which is a bit of a shame.
