Just wondered how everyones pre shot routines vary on the tee box?

I'll start......

Stand behind the ball, see the direction or target I'm aiming for then hold my shaft up ( no jokes please) to run a line thru the ball to the target, then I pick a Mark on the ground about 6-10 feet along that line then move into position squaring myself up to that line. Gives me loads of confidence knowing that I'm square to the target line as opposed to looking one way but setting up closed or open.

Full practice swing beside the ball ,, step behind the ball & pick a target in the distance , address the ball , wiggle of the wrist to relieve the tension , & bang..

Same as that except I just run my eyes along the line and pick something about a foot or two in front of the ball, and it gives me absolutely no confidence at all because I know from a putting lesson that I can't set a club square to a target to save my life :o

I know a Guy at my club that does his setup just like that. then he does it again and again and if he feels he has to he does it again. Everyone wants to play with him

I hold my ball and line it up with the green then bring it down in a straight line and push the tee in with it noting some mark on the ground to set up to.

LOL I know what you mean, some people take ages, my routine as above takes under 10 secs from start to finish.........not always with the desired results, occasionally after a bad hole I just stand up and Blooter it.....guess where it goes? no seriously guess as I don't usually see that ball again :o

There are routines?
should be a routine for every shot .. even putting . repitition builds confidence , esp on the bad days ..

Sorry the humor was lost, on the other hand I really do need to have a more repeatable routine, normally pick target, line club face adjust body, hit ball in the wrong direction and try to find it, repeat many times more than I should!!

close to the original post. i take a pre shot swing from behind the ball looking down the fairway at my target, that way if the swing is crap by the time i address the ball and do my pre shot fuffing its gone. but like most look at where i want to be and find a point infront of the ball around 2 ft away to line up off.

With feet together square off the mark up point in the floor, assume stance, quickle wiggle... then either

Duff, Slice, Hook, Fat or thing accordingly.

Almost a carbon copy of this myself - when I am playing half decently and do this it helps a lot - when things are going wrong I find myself rushing and forgetting this routine and I have to force myself to slow down a tad. So its partly for the confidence about the set up and partly about the speed / rhythm and keeping that all as steady as possible.

-Select club
-Place ball
-Stand behind ball and take a loose practice swing
-Visualise the shot I want to make
-Stand beside ball and line the club head up with my desired target line
-square my feet
-"settle in" and make sure I'm aligned and comfortable
-Club waggle
-duff/slice/hook it

Sounds alot but only take a max of about 30-40 seconds.

Same here. Then I get my butler (sorry, Caddy) to check my feet and shoulders are square.

Then I pull it to oblivion. :D

I dont have a preshot routine for any shots , I just go with how it feels at the time. I know where I want to hit it off the tee and then just stand up to it and hit it. I'll maybe have a couple of swings when trying to gauge the feel for a tricky little pitch or chip around the green but thats about it.

I was told that I should look at where I want it to land and not a few feet in front. so I do, and sometimes it goes near, and sometimes it doesn't.

I'm also supposed to do a few slow take backs to check my left arm is extended all the way back but there are only so many hours in a day . . .
