Lining up your tee shot

My playing partners say I look a little rushed when I get on the tee, probably just a nervous thing more than anything else, but it's usually press tee in with ball, ensure ball is sitting pretty with the Nike swoosh aiming at my target line - stand alongside it for a nice, smooth, unrushed clean practise swing..... step to address ball, proceed to tonk it into the desert, never to be seen again.

I was told that I should look at where I want it to land and not a few feet in front. so I do, and sometimes it goes near, and sometimes it doesn't.

Certainly for me, and I'd guess all the others who pick a spot a few feet in front of the ball, it's only for the initial lining up. After I've addressed the ball aiming over the spot I've picked I then forget it and all further looks up are at the final target.

I pick a point in the distance for my line, usually a tree trunk or stake or something on the horizon. If needed I will pick an intermediate point but not always, only if I feel I need some extra help. I do this for all tee shots, driver down to SW

I tend to rush my tee shots a lot and of course the worse I'm playing the quicker everything gets. I'm trying to stop and pick a target and focus on that more and take my time. It is working perfectly up until the moment club meets ball.
