Agree totally - it's good to bare the soul every now and then.

Said to my wide the other day, only regret I have is that I didn't do my motorcycle license. I've always loved riding dirt bikes as a kid on the small holding but never did a license for a road bike when I had the chance.

I've always wanted to explore the country roads on a bike in spring\summer.

I am a twin and my brother was always artistic and I was the academic one. I never tried art as I was always told I was the brainy one (?) and no good at art. Having turned 60+ plus recently I had a go at some pencil drawings and really enjoyed the challenge but many many years too late!

Whenever I think of what might have beens I always come back to this Don McLean lyric...

"Crossroads"

I've got nothing on my mind,
Nothing to remember,
Nothing to forget.
And I've got nothing to regret.
But I'm all tied up on the inside,
No one knows quite what I've got,
And I know that on the outside
What I used to be
I'm not
anymore.

You know I've heard about people like me
But I never made the connection.
They walk one road to set them free
And find they've gone the wrong direction.
But there's no need for turning back
Cause all roads lead to where I stand;
And I believe I'll walk them all
No matter what I may have planned.

Can you remember who I was?
Can you still feel it?
Can you find my pain?
Can you heal it?

Then lay your hands upon me now
And cast this darkness from my soul.
You alone can light my way.
You alone can make me whole
Once again.

We've walked both sides of every street
Through all kinds of windy weather;
But that was never our defeat
As long as we could walk together.
So there's no need for turning back
Cause all roads lead to where we stand;
And I believe we'll walk them all
No matter what we may have planned.

These are a few lines from a song that was about years ago. I sometimes think about the way we looked at the world when young, before cynicism :

"I can remember when I was a boy that my bed was a ship that I sailed through the night
And I remember the world as a place that was eager and loving and shiny and bright.

Where is the boy who was friends with the rainbow and once rode upon
Where is that shy and mysterious person
Oh where have I gone?"

From the man with more Golfing jumpers than Nick Faldo.....

But no-one would ever carve their&his initials in a heart into a tree! :whistle:

The records my folks used to play were all of this sort - Jim Reeves being Mum's favourite, but a fair amount of similar syrupy stuff - Richard Chamberlain even featured, along with several other crooners!

A former boss, on retirement, wanted a challenge and decided he'd give painting watercolours a go... Having never before shown any interest in art... 20+ years later he has got rather proficient and says its been the best bit of his retirement... Plus, when ever his group exhibits nearly all his work sells more than covering his materials outlay... Not that he needs it...

My brother went on to get a fine art degree in later life and my uncle worked most of his life for the BBC as an artist. The thread proves that you should try whatever you fancy, you don't know how talented you could be!
