So I finally had a lesson with my local pro. Had always thought they would be pointless and that my ability would decide my handicap. How wrong was I?!!

Within minutes my shots had improved. Simply by giving me a new starting position I was hitting cleaner and more accurate shots. For anybody sitting on the fence. Have one now!!

Big fan of going to a good pro and getting regular tuition. I came down from 13-10 last year with the teaching pro I switched to in December 2011 changing my swing completely. It has been a long road but I really feel on the cusp of something really positive in 2013

I told a friend of mine who's been playing for 2 years to get a lesson. I wish I hadn't now!!! A few days after he had one his head got even bigger and he thinks he won't need another one ever again!!

Do you think you'll have anymore? I think they're money well spent

I certainly will. Will probably have 5-10 rounds before hand so I can see the benefits of what he's taught me, then hope for the next thing. I was actually landing on greens from fairways yesterday, not just hoping to be close enough for a chip onto the green. Driver still needs work, but 7-sw I honestly feel confident on my shots.

I have a lesson every week but that's only cause I took golf up 7 months ago. Must admit it helps me enjoy a round a lot more knowing I've got things to work on and have someones opinion on how to improve

I started in October. Still hit comfortably to 28 lol.

think that wont be for too long as long as I stuck to what I've been shown. Putting is next in need of a fix n

Been playing for a few years without any lessons, until last year. Wish I'd done it sooner but thought he would rip my game apart and start again. I was wrong and even had a couple more over the last fortnight.

Grogger, good to see a fellow long suffering Leeds fan, and living in Cheshire. Where do you play?

lessons are great but you do need to practice in between and just not play have a lesson play IMO whilst working on specifics.
i think an hour on the range hitting 30-40 balls is move productive than a round.

I don't play a round unless I've been to the range for at least 30 mins. I agree totally that practi e is more important, but we all play golf for the pleasure on the course not playing at the range lol

Hello mate what a terrible season Leeds are having!! When I'm home I like to play at High Legh golf club in Knutsford, lovely course and I really like the greens there. Where do you play?

In agreement with pretty much all of the above, I have just completed a course of 4x 1 hour lessons (a winter offer at a great price) after a frustrating year of rounds ruined by 3 or 4 diabolical shots. Even allowing for the weather which basically cancelled out any practise time, my ball striking has drastically removed and, almost as importantly, I now have a very clear & reasonably simple set of keys to hitting good shots & a very simple check list to analyse bad ones. The improvement (my main fault was excessive lateral weight shift) has applied itself throughout my game, from driver thru' to delicate chips of bare lies!

The rest, as they say, is down to me ;))

I only wish I'd have taken up lessons when I started. I think about the amount of time wasted hacking my way around and coming up with my own reasons / excuses for why I wasn't getting better.

Ended up booking 6 lessons with the Pro in my local range. Turned my swing around completly, and I've never looked back.

Best thing I ever did
