My first thread so please be gentle with me.

Brendy mentioned that he plays golf right handed but is normally left handed.

I am very much a right handed person but play golf and cricket the other way round. My father was a a good cricketer and taught me to play left handed as it was such a nuisance to the opposition and a good proportion of the best stroke players play that way round.

I am convinced that I play the "right way round" as I predomitably use my strongest side. In raquet sports parlance I play backhand rather than forehand and feel that I have more control although you wouldn't think so if you knew my h/cap.

Like Brendy though I can also chip (and putt) the other way round although more practice is needed.

I have come across many r/h lefties so the question is ...who amongst you are right handers playing as lefties and vica versa?

I'm left handed but do everything right handed. Snooker and Golf, but bowl left handed (spin).???

Interestingly, my old, old pro (lessons coach) got down to 3 right handed, and then completely relearned from scratch to play left handed (as this was his supposed "natural" handed-ness). He got down to scratch, and felt a) he was intuitively better left handed and b) also (and get this!?) he actually wanted to learn to swing a club from the beginning with the constant attention of of top teacher (Dennis Pugh). He was a great teacher......could help both r and l landed pupils!!!

Left handed snooker, left footed football and write left handed. Golf is pretty much the only thing I do right handed,I suppose its because Im the only "clute" in the family and my dad and elder brother started golf right handed so it seemed natural for my dad to buy me a rh set. In all honesty, if I had the choice to relearn I'd stick to right handed purely for access to equipment.

In Canada there is a higher than normal percentage of left handers because in ice hockey the favoured slap shot is left handed. Also this means that they have a much better choice of left handed equipment.. Useless but true fact

My brother is left handed but plays golf right handed.

How many times when perched on a bunker lip have I wished I could play left handed!

Similar to Gasp's point they often have the UK left handers golf champs at Kingusssie/Newtonmore in the Scottish Highlands because all the kids play shinty (hockey for savages) 80% of them swing a shinty caman(stick) left handed despite being right handed so when they subsequently pick up a golf club when they're older they swing it left handed.

Our friends are an 'odd couple.' He is naturally right-handed but golfs left. She is the opposite, though plays many sports right-handed owing to old-school teaching (lefties just got left out). also a big incentive to buying rh rather than lh clubs - harder to get especially for a lady.

Used to play with a mate who had right and left handed drivers and putters in his bag, but right handed irons. Odd, but as a persistent fader of the ball off the tee, he had both options covered, and always liked to putt with the ball above his feet.

My son is left-handed and is just starting to play (at 27). He can't make his mind up yet whether to play left or right (of course if I do get new irons the fact that he could then have my old ones might persuade him to go right).

I'm a bit of a mis-match. I am naturally left handed and write that way. I kick a ball predominantly with my left foot (although I use to be a classy two footed overlapping type of full back in my Sunday morning footballing days).

However I am right handed for golf, cricket, tennis etc. I tried golf left handed early on and it just didn't feel right at all (even before my right handed grip etc had been ingrained).

Still horses for courses and all that

I play right handed but putt left handed, a friend plays left handed but putts right handed.

here in Ireland we have a good number of left handed golfers and cack handed golfers i.e left hand below right, its all because most of us irish played hurling, a bit like shinty but we can catch the ball, a hurley is generally held with the right hand on top hence the cack handed golfers. Plus hurlers are allowed hit the ball both right and left sided.

Like so many other lefties all I could find as a kid was right handed clubs so I picked them up and have always played RH.

Again like so many lefties you have to be a bit ambidexterous. I write LH, bowl LH, bat RH, etc.
