The creator of the "Pointy Haired Boss" never gave him a name so that everyone could relate to him as their own boss. I retired in 2007 and had several Dilbert volumes. My peers and I used to marvel at, to us, the reality of the situations.
Brilliant stuff.
(We also had, of course, David Brent).
My favourite ever Dilbert line...

I remember (back in the early 80's) asking the regional head of in-store security/audit etc what his role was... "My job is to detect undetectable losses" o_O
