Our little one has this exact question on his gold certificate math thing (year 3) and we don’t really understand what the question is supposed to be.
It's actually worded very badly. 'The remaining quarter' doesn't make sense when there would be three 'remaining quarters' having taken a quarter in the first place. It should say 'another quarter' or 'a quarter of the remaining'.Our little one has this exact question on his gold certificate math thing (year 3) and we don’t really understand what the question is supposed to be.
Is it 3/12 or 4/16 to add to her 4 already taken?
It's a rubbish question IMHO. I can think of 4 answers and they all require assumptions to be made:Our little one has this exact question on his gold certificate math thing (year 3) and we don’t really understand what the question is supposed to be.

Also, who is "she"?It's a rubbish question IMHO. I can think of 4 answers and they all require assumptions to be made:
1) Assume that the question is meant to be "asks for a quarter of the remaining chocolates", secondly assume that they are given (as opposed to the aforementioned slap), then the total would be 7
2) Assume that the question is meant to be "asks for another quarter of all of the chocolates", secondly assume that they are given, then the total would be 8
3) Assume that the question means that 12 is the remaining quarter of the total number and that the greedy so and so Tracey has filtched 36 chocolates already. Then the remaining quarter is the 12, so bullying Tracey would end up with all 48!
4) A slap
Good point, another assumption made. Mind you, my granny always said she was the cat's mother. Also, who is "she"?
