last big comp-gutted

Played in our last big comp of the year,pairs matchplay,lost by one hole.I was playing off 11 my partner off 12=5 shots each 3/4 hp playing 13 hp and a 5hp,basically playing 5hp on his own.2down after 6 to his birdies level after 8 due to my birdie and par by partner.Level after 13,1 up after 14,level after 15 1 down after 16.Going up last par 4 put 2nd to 12 ft,13hp put his to 10ft right to left breaker.I holed for a birdie then youve guessed it 13 hp holes his first putt of the round and only contribution,absolutely gutted,of cause life goes on but its painfull.

That's the trouble in matchplay. If your opponent makes a putt that's the hole over especially if they get a shot. Forget the 8 or 9 he may have had elsewhere which would have ruined a medal or stableford. Tough to take as well when he has done nothing else and waits until the point of no return to come to the party. Bad luck but take solace in the fact you actually got to the final anyway.

You've got to be in it to win it PJ and you made the final. Feel your frustration in what sounds like a tight match. Well played in making the final and here's hoping you go one better next year.

Congrats on making the final and giving it a real good go. Never mind the last hole , you made the birdie to force them to respond (which they did). It was only one hole out of the 18 and i'm sure there were other chances you could have taken in the round as a whole so chin up and see it as a positive golfing experience.
