Well, what can I say, this must be the deal of the century. Apparently I can get a Land Rover discovery for only £500 pounds a month. I've discussed it with HID and she has said YES! if our kids do not eat anything all month and we do not pay the mortgage or the other household bills then it is well affordable. It has to be worth it surely?

Have you not bought a dyson yet? That advert worked on me, cos I put Simon dyson in my fantasy golf this week for some reason and he is living up to his name by sucking!!

Love subliminal/in your face marketing.

Dreadful cars, they are always getting stuck on our shoots and have to be pulled out by our land rovers.
Yummy mummys taking the kids to school in Fulham is all they are good for.

To be fair, that's rubbish. A disco is a fantastic off road car. Anyone that gets one stuck and needs pulling out is a complete muppet. My mum could drive one seriously off road if someone told her what settings to use.

I'll stick with my trusty old one. Don't have the 10K deposit spare right now. :o.

As for their capabilities - it's all about operator and tyres. They'll all go pretty much anywhere if driven right with decent boots fitted.

The discovery's at work were that bad and unreliable they were all changed for Rav4's!!!!!

Now using Mitsubishi Outlanders!

If I had my way you lot would still be plodding around in the old LDV Sherpa Vans, we pay to much taxes that allow you lot to run about in fast German cars these days:whoo:

Got a good laugh on Monday this week when our MD managed to get his brand spanking new Discovery stuck in snow on his way to work.

Sent the lad in our old works Transit and he was able to pull him out the ditch.

I suspect that it may have had more to do with the driver than the vehicle. Plenty of times i have seen drivers of 4x4's (of all types) charge at situations assuming 4 wheel drive will get them through without any attention to driving method.

I believe it is called "The Jeremy Clarkson Style".

Was in a main dealer the other day & was looking at a beaut Discovery , i said if i won the lotto id buy 1 ...
guy i was talking to said run away as fast and as far as i can that they are a pile of dung ..

Interesting, how many have you had?

I have only had two (constantly for the past 17 years) done about 300,000 miles in them and found them very reliable and capable, I suspect you have been unlucky with yours.

Lucky you. I have heard many others have not been so lucky.

I would not pay that sort of money for that sort of car
I have help pull half a dozen our of the mire on the hills though, does that count.
Mind you that was probably the drivers fault.

What is your average service bill?

What has the cost of a service got to do with it, if you spend good money on good cars then you expect to pay more money for a service, tyres etc.

We don't all run about in Fords:whistle:

That's true.... its the depreciation thing for me, I like having my money in the bank.
Turn the key and it goes suits me fine.
Mind you after 300000 miles there won't be much depreciation.

I bought a disco 3 a few years ago, aTDV6 S.It was a lovely looking thing, that is as far as it went. Air suspension was a failure,Failed its first mot , for a car which was £32K new i thought was pretty poor. Even the rear number plate fell off.Had it about 3 years and spent £000's replacing wires in the wiring loom, ball joints, etc. etc. I paid £27k for it 9months old, sold it for £10k.Absolute bag of *****. We live semi rural/farming type area, discos and RR's are common, with more horror stories than fairy tales.

Anybody who thinks a 3ton lump with the spare wheel UNDERNEATH is a competent off roader, are entitled to their opinion.

I know it's not a real off roader but it is so good in the snow and has never had a fault in 14 years. OH! I am talking about our Honda HRV.
