After reading MikeH's editors letter in this months magazine i have to agree with him about Troy Merritt's win.Merritt won $1 millon for having the lowest score on 18 of the most scenic holes thru out the season,he won in a play off from Rickie Fowler and Aaron Baddley.

Now as the PGA Tour brain washes people in how much they give back to charity would this Kodak Challenge been better if at the start of the season every player nominates there charity and the money goes to that,i think that would be a better idea,IMO.

Nothing against Merritt but he kept his card on the bubble of 125 with roughly $750,000 in winnings which is a lot of cash for playing poorly all year, this means that to win that $1 million he's probably played a hell of a lot of weeks scraping to keep his card. Now if he had the choice what do you think he would prefer the Kodak Challenge money or a higher finish in the money list.

I wouldn't say that being 125 is necessarily playing poorly, how much better did the guy play who came 124, or 123 or even 20 places ahead of him?

Also, because it ties in with how many $'s they've made then you also have to consider just how much difference the purse size for each event makes, eg: Danny Willett came second in the Dunhill Links picking up some £350,000 but could have finished second in a different event and been lucky to get £80K.

I'm not sure about the charity part either, I think that the player should keep his $1M but Kodak should match it with another $1M for the charity of the winning players choice because I believe that (excuse the pun) Kodak get a lot of exposure for their megre million dollars. Would two million be pushing out the boat too far?
