Keeping warm on the course

I wear a cheap Cotton Traders roll neck sweater under a polo shirt. Seems to work for me but I carry a fair bit of timber around the midriff so suspect that helps to insulate against the colder conditions

I must be well 'ard then!!!

Last winter I was wearing.......polo shirt, sweater and my waterproof top.
A tad chilly to start with on the 1st but by the time I'd got to the 3rd I found I was warmed up nicely. Even removed my jacket on most occasions playing the back 9.
Like many I don't like the constricting feeling experienced when layered up.

I agree with RGDave. Base layers, under armour - what the hell! You'll be playing off the red blocks soon. :D
If you are playing somewhere near the Cairngorms, or down the North East Coast, in the middle of winter then you may need a tad more protection from the elements, but for the rest of us who hardly get a 'winter' these days - t-shirt, polo shirt, sweater, windcheater.

Thing is I want to wear as few layers as possible so as not to impede my swing.

On dry days that would be: Base layer / polo or roll neck / sweater and on wet days I'd swap the sweater for my rain jacket.

When I play golf, the most I have ever worn, has been a 'T' shirt under my polo shirt and maybe my regular shower jacket, two thin pairs of socks, I keep my hands in my pockets if its freezing.

Most of the year its polo shirt, if its really cool its a long sleeved fleece with zip up collar(streamline type), or just stick my shower jacket over my polo shirt.

I sometimes wonder how people actually play the game when they turn up with more clothes on than their wardrobes hold. :D

Bloody body armour costs a fortune.

Buy a pack of these (3 in a pack)....
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Confidence-Roll-...8606&sr=8-1

Stick one on, put a nice jumper over the top and if necessary put your waterproof jacket over the top of that.
Top it all off with a nice bobble hat.
If you are still too cold with that lot on, walk off the course, head home and get the scrabble out.
It's obviously too cold for golf.
Simples
;)

LOL I like it!!! I'll have a look. You're right about the price but it's all supply and demand and it's the latest must have under garment on the football and rugby pitch. Football I kinda get but rugby! It's all the girls in the backs that don't do enough blinking running!

I have a Halle Hanson baselayer I wear under a polo and then I have a Ping lined sweater. I bought some fleece lined trousers last year which where great and this year I have bought some gore windstopper gloves, the only thing I am short is a waterproof jacket.

I wear Adidas techfit base layers. Don't care whether Im a southern softy or not, feel the bloody cold a lot these days and prefer the extra layer to play in rather than freezing myself stupid.

Am off to Japan in December, there is a shop called Uniqlo (also one in London I think) that have developed a new range called HeatTech, supposedly fantastic at generating warmth and keeping it in, so am planning to go check them out.

Website is currently down but you can buy Heat Tech online from www.uniqlo.co.uk - prices start at £7.99 apparently.

I had a look at the Japanese site http://store.uniqlo.com/jp/store/feature/heattech/men/#fC04 - it's not actually a base layer as we know it, just ordinary T-shirts and such, so you can pretend your "hard" like all those on here pooh poohing base layers :p

To stay warm on the golf course I tend to swing one of the clubs that I have in my bag, hit the ball, walk after it and repeat for a few hours.

Base Layers alone do not keep you warm, if you think they do try wearing the base layer without anything over the top of it.

Don't for one minute think they do, and wouldn't dream of just wearing base layers with nowt else to hide it. Even with my chiselled physique I look like a bag of turnips stuffed into a pair of tights - not a pretty site.

Keeping warm is a combination of layered clothing and movement. On a cold day, with poor circulation, I often have to wear 3 or 4 layers to keep warm and a base layer allows me to keep the layers relativley thin.

I usually wear base layer, T-shirt or turtle neck shirt, sweatshirt and wind shirt. If it's not too windy and I get warm enough, the wind shirt comes off.
