Evening all, not been out on an 18 hole course as yet and probably won't until the new year. Have utterly rinsed my golfing budget but will be on the lookout for a few things in the sales. Top of the list is a base layer. Having played a lot of football I have worn an entry level under armour mock which is great if you are getting a sweat on but not so good if you are standing around.

Layering is the key but obviously you don't want too much bulk or it will affect your swing. I'm looking at the under armour metal mock but wandered if any of you use other brands or items to keep warm.

Currently have Nike gore tex waterproofs and titleist winter mittens. Thanks for the input.

well personally i dont think you should buy some base layers because you don't have any woods or driver (according to your set up anyway) so my advice would be to get a good club set up instead of buying a base layer

Hey pete having spoken to my pro I'm not planning on getting custom fit for woods until my swing is more developed but given my yardage on irons the plan is to start playing full courses early in the new year so will want to keep warm while I'm out there. What do you wear?

Makes sense, buys some shiny new kit that you can look at all winter inm the knowledge that it will still be pristine in the spring because you were too cold yto use it. ?????
Get a base layer

Are galvin greens better than under armour? The ones I've seen cost about the same but the galvins feel thinner? If they can combine that with the same level of warmth that would be great but I had the feeling that they wouldn't be as warm. Anyone got a galvin or under armour base layer?

I've got a couple of long sleeve Helly Hanson base Layers (bought for sking)that I use and they are fantastic! if the weathers bad then i'll just wear the base layer and my Ping waterproof and find that that keeps me really warm, just got to remember to pack a polo to wear after in the bar!

No aimed at anyone...but what planet are you all on!?

T-shirt underneath a polo shirt. If it's crazy cold, wear a jumper or waterproof top.

Base layers? Bunch of woosses...

So many replies thanks guys:

Abush what model Helly Hansens do you wear?

Pigmeister what patagonia do you wear and where did you get it from?

RGDave my parents are from the land of calypso so I'll base my woosiness on the islander in me ;-)!

I will just say one thing on base layers ... they are NOT thermal atire. It will only keep you warm if you wear thermals on top of them. They ar designed to wick moisture away from the body but my under armour doesnt keep me warm, my other layers do !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unless it is particularly extreme cold weather, the only people who should feel the cold are those who dawdle along for 5 hrs :D

Wear a couple of layers and use your pockets and get on with it!....simple!

Another under armour vote from me. I'll either use the base layer and a polo shirt and jumper if it isn't too bad or a nice roll neck and jumper if it gets Baltic (well cold for a southern wimp like me). Don't forget to get a decent wooly hat and some mittens too to keep the extremities warm
