I did not buy it! I went with intent to buy and even got a good trade in offer on my 909 but as I stood smashing drives down the range I think I suddenly grew up or .... I spend too much time on this forum because I thought to myself "how many shots will drop by spending this money"

My driving as been off the last few weeks but it's back now and feeling good so I should leave well alone.

I was fitted for a 910 D3 with a stiff Kailli shaft and non of that was any supprise. The fitted cranked the loft down to 8.75* and said the D3 was better for me as it's lower launch characteristics with the mid shaft worked out best.

How long can I hold off :D :D

Same spec as mine. I love it but haven't hit the 909. One of the pro's at our place didn't bother with the 910 as he hit's the 909 as well.

You try any other shiny shiny's?

Might bite the bullet tomorrow and get myself booked in at Cambridge. Need a big dog.

Des not being nasty in anyway but at 27.4 I'd spend the £300 on lessons and course time. This time of year a well struck 3w is plenty and will get you in less trouble if your having an off day. I love long drives as much as anyone but a good technique with a 3 & 5 wood can be card savers. At blackmoor I could have added atleast 4 points to my score playing my 3w instead of spraying drivers ;)

Hi OS. Not nasty at all. The reason I play off 27 is primarily down to control. Currently dedicating more time on my long game. Last nights range session was positive. However I can't keep putting off buying a driver. I'd be booking in for August / September time and it will be my b'day present. Don't worry practice and lessons are high on my agenda.

I did on several occassions when playing partners had the big sticks in their hand. The temptation to rip drives down long holes was too much, didn't hit one bad 3w all day, yet 25% of drives wasn't great .

Des, I'm glad you could see the point I was hoping to make even if others failed to. Good luck when you do finally get it buddy ;)

Only 25%, not a bad average so why were you complaining then?

Des. Hold the phone. Do I know you from a former life? School/uni?

Tiger: Nope, your blog or email that you posted was tiger des, just paying attention bud.

Chris: 75% isn't a bad average but the other 25% required chips/hacks from the cabbage with no possible shots to greens resulting in dropped shots. I agree 75% isn't bad, but in my opinion 100% with a 3w will have no doubt resulted in more points.... And points mean prizes.

Fair enough. Des is my old nickname from way back when but for the record Tiger is my first name :)

OS does hit a mean driver as Camberley proved on Sunday but like all of us lacked a certain degree of control although he could rightly put that down the heat. I do think the price of drivers mean its something that needs serious consideration. A good 2nd hand (G10, Big Bertha etc) would save a lot of dough to invest on lessons including a driving one or two. has to be a win win.

I might be alone on this, but I find my driver more reliable than my fairway wood. I mean, it's huge! 1" off centre on my 4w and it's a horrible toe-y shot that could go anywhere. 1" off on my driver will just be a small draw.

If I want to take distance off just use a 3/4 swing and it'll go as far as a full 4w.

Don't get me wrong, I still prefer my 4w for some tee shots, I just don't think the driver needs to be this unreliable monster that it sometimes gets painted as (as long as you don't use it to try to launch the ball into another time zone).

You smooth talking so and so. The heat was a killer but generally the weekend didn't see my driving on form. The only good thing was both down the first at blackmoor were absolute peaches, even if they were 30/40 yards shorter than swingers :(

I'll go with this. As I say I have just had an off spell with it for a few weeks but apart from that it is reliable, long and a big part of my game. My driving accuracy last year was stunning.

I would rather be on a tee box with 20 people watching than stood over a 4 foot putt with 20 people watching.

Anyhoooo you lot usurped my post :D :D :D
