Cant believe John Jacobs is 87 on Wednesday!

Seems like yesterday I was reading his book Practical Golf, I learned so much from it and still refer to it today.

Happy Birthday when it comes on Wednesday Mr Jacobs, you deserve it.

I have his taped lessons on DVD and they are still good if a little 'old fashionedx' - like me!

I used to work with another John Jacobs who is now a respected EGU coach at Cumberwell Park GC.
The name lives on

I did not have much time for the original JJ.
To much of a self publicist for my taste. Not as good a coach as he thought he was.
He did a good job establishing the European Tour though.

Seems like he's been 87 for the last 20 years! ;)

He also managed to (well-meaningly) screw up the swing of Pro mate of mine when he was young and impressionable (and better at that time than Woosnam and Boxall, who were contemporaries). So not quite God!

Didn't like his teaching methods much and he was a bit of a fame seeker but you can't argue that the seeds he sowed in relation to creating a Europeant Tour have reaped huge harvest and so for that alone I salute you MR J - Happy birthday
