Jeans in clubhouse

Our place has just started a trial on this very thing :)
And smart trainers
And tshirts "worn outside the trousers":eek:

Dear god, when will the madness stop :whoo:

Business as usual on the course though.

Dunno whether it's related but I believe full gents membership is now full too - which is a pretty good effort I think.

My god, won't somebody think of the children!!!!

Oh, they have.

As Hawkeye pointed out we tried it, nothing much changed and then we go rid. I don't think it made an iota of difference to clubhouse usage. I'd rather we didn't go back and introduce it again. Who defines "smart". As for on course, I'm rather traditional in my views and want proper golfing attire

We don`t at my club , no jeans allowed , shame as long as it is smart , whats the problem

Really, who bloody cares? It really isn't an issue. Or it shouldn't be.

Clearly it is for the number of clubs either not allowing them. others like mine that tried and it and changed back or those that allow them. We had a member who wore a pair of £100 designer jeans while they were allowed which had rips (intentional) and they were deemed inappropriate, yet you could wear a £10 pair from Tesco no problem. Where does that line get drawn?

Simple, just make it clear that ripped jeans aren't acceptable (as my place has done).

Pathetic little details like that are only an issue if you make them one IMO.

It's obviously an issue as many (most ?) clubs don't allow them. The smart thing would seem obvious to me, but maybe an 18 year old would have a different opinion. He'd be wrong of course :-)

I think it really will make a difference, the club is pretty close to the main residential area so will be on the list of possible venues for lunch, drinks etc along with the main bars etc

My club have done a review of the club dress code, everything has stayed much as you'd expect on course which is what I'd want to see, but we now allow smart jeans in the clubhouse. I think this is a great move, there are many time I've been out with the family and could have stopped at the club for lunch but decided not to because we weren't all dressed as if we were about to play. Hopefully it'll make the club more accessible to none golfers and attract a few more people

we have been the same for a few years - pragmatic and modern policy.

Come back to the same issue. Who decides what is smart

My view is that is probably a figurative expression - certainly at or place as i not sure even what the rule is or when it was set - the reality is that it is probably nearer no rules policy - but in reality it doesn't matter as not much has changed - just means peple who are not golfing pop in and use the club without worrying what they are wearing

Haha is that Swinger from our last Hayling meet?

To a certain extent, I have an issue with the smart jeans point in that who really cares. It is a bar, a place to relax and enjoy yourself so who really cares if you are smart or not. If you want to control the clientele then limit use to members, guests and family. Outside of golf clubs, the only places I know with dress codes for the bar are overly pretentious or have delusions of grandeur. If he clubhouse wants people to spend time and money in the clubhouse then they need to make a place that people want to spend time and money.
