Jeans in clubhouse

Recently allowed at our clubhouse too. Rule was brought in after previously parents bringing their kids for group lessons werent able to sit inside in the warm, barely seen anyone in jeans (except me) since the rule came in. Makes life easier for me if Im going out straight from the club rather than having to change again just before leaving

RAGC did a 6 month trial a while back. I didn't hear much whinging when it came in and when it was stopped after the 6 months I didn't hear much whinging either. I pretty sure the membership was nonplussed by it. Personally I don't see why jeans shouldn't be allowed in the clubhouse but the dresscode on the course should remain.

My club allows jeans but is 30miles from my home. Last weekend my partner and I were in the area and wanted to have lunch. 2 pubs we went to were fully booked, so we went to my club in jeans.

Thats £30 the club would not have got if the didn't allow jeans.

Why would it be unacceptable to wear clothes on the course that are acceptable in the clubhouse?

This really shouldn't be a story in this day and age. Wear what you want, I'll normally wear jeans once I've showered, or shorts or even knee length denim shorts. Got a bit of a ribbing about a year ago for being presented an engraved scotch glass for winning the monthly medal wearing cut off denim shorts plimsoles no socks, white polo shirt and hoodie. I did take the hoodie off for the photo shaking hands with captain tho 😄. Loads of banter in the club house but all good fun, just as it should be.

I wonder what would happen if golf clubs just said people could wear what they wanted to relax in a bar? Do you think there would suddenly be hoards of the types of people golf clubs are so scared of, the hooded ripped jean wearing youths or cargo short and flip flop wearing surfer dudes, making their way to the local golf club to hang out?

Or do you think that actually the vast majority of people would wear what they have always done. Yes you may get the odd young person in jeans, but the earth would still turn and you never know, over time you may actually get more people, including families spending their hard earned money in the bar as they no longer have to worry about breaking one of the many rules about what you can wear (ooh are my jeans smart, are they casual, does anybody apart from seemingly golf clubs actually care in 2015) at school. Sorry, at a golf club.

We started allowing jeans a few months back. Think it is a good idea as it means I can pop in for a drink when near the Club.

That's pretty much what happened at RAGC.

Genuinly don't know the rule at my last club, but I definitely walked through in flip flops a couple of times. Was probably against the rules, but I didn't know them, no-one said anything. After walking around the course for a few hours, I much prefer to take the shoes off and let them breathe (after washing them obviously, smells wouldn't be appreciated). It makes me wonder if anyone noticed I was in flip flops.

That is the one thing that I do not understand about the great jeans debate, it makes no sense whatsoever.

If there was any logic surely it should be the other way around as jeans are historically outdoor workwear.

Anyone care to explain that one in a way that makes any sense.

Wish my club would do this. Not just for me but my wife would come up for lunch more often as she wears jeans all the time and is not going to change into a dress for a drink and a sandwich

i think you just answered your own question.

Besides, name me one other sport that I would be allowed to wear jeans?.

The good news is that there are becoming less and less of the dress code devotees. In some naive way it makes them feel better than the average Jo, but cannot understand why.
The simple fact is, that people are sensible enough to know what is "ok" and what is not, and would not start turning up dressed for manual work, or wearing over the top clothing. It would find the right level without any intervention. I'm not one of these that thinks "anything goes" but there just needs to be more acceptance that times have changed, and that people now wear different clothes to their parents, and their parents parents. And not just for golf - for work, to weddings, to the pub, to play sports in, to funerals etc.
doesn't mean that standards have slipped - just changed.

LOL, i would personally say, non ripped and frayed, not covered in paint etc. I might get me some of those skinny ones, roll them up and wear shoes with no socks. I will be proper "smart" then. guest100718 will know the score on these, (not that he wears them!, well maybe he does?!)

All clubs should open a hipsters only bar.

We changed our rules recently to allow jeans also - great move I think.

Thing that makes me smile is dodgy nightclubs that bar jeans to go into a lound room, where there is not enough space to get far enough from anyone to see what folks have on their legs and even if there were the space, it's bl**dy dark anyway. Craziness!
