Hi bit of an absence from the forum, hope everyone is well and hitting it long and straight.

I am looking at changing my car - I am now at the stage in life where i want luxury and comfort, I am considering a Jaguar X-Type or S-Type.
Has anyone on here any dealings with these cars?
Any feedback? any bad points?
Thanks in anticipation.

I had an x-type a few years ago, and to be honest, it was pretty poor. The engine was fine, but the build quality was suspect and the interior was plastic-city. It was (is?) based on the Mondeo floorpan, and to be honest, in retrospect, I'd have been better off getting one of those! Can't comment on the s-type though...

Anyway, that's my 2p worth!

My friends (older!) and family have plenty of Jags. X and S types.
Personally, I think the X looks good but isn't a real Jag and the S is a real Jag but looks-wise is less attractive.
Can't win really.

Early S types were a little problematic, but as these were fixed under warranty I think most owners are happy enough. The Xs have a good reputation (it would seem).

X-Type is an overpriced mondeo with plenty of troubles, particularly in diesels.

S-Type is a nice car, the interior doesnt wear well though, they all have to have a gearbox replacement at some point which isnt cheap. They do however drive and look great in my eyes.

Depending on budget look at the XJ models also, they can be had on 2004-plates with a bit of leg for no money for that sort of car and they are a proper Jag.

Whatever you buy, make sure it is an automatic and that it has leather.

My 1997 X300 XJ-Sport was complete and utter porn in electric blue with cream leather, black-wood detailing and only 49k with FSH. I sold it a couple of years ago to my teaching pro, it hasnt farted out of place (we service and maintain it) and has gone up £1k in value in those 2 years.

Im buying it back off him when he changes it.
