Ive had it with lessons and pros!

Paralysis by analysis.

I like it, I had two baskets at the range tonight, 70% of them were forced as I was thinking so hard and then I ran out of mental energy and the ball was suddenly never easyer to hit.

When you went for the lessons what did you ask for?

The reason I went for lessons was originally a few lessons to help me stay on the right track and squeeze a little more out of my game. This has now turned into a boat load of lessons with massive changes and a swing that I have tried throwing money at that has got worse.

Hmm, all 3 pros have basically told you that you are on the wrong track though. and started you along a different swing - one with which you feel uncomfortable.

So, if we accept what I've said above as true a few musings on that:

1/ If 3 people who's job it is to teach golf all tell you the same thing are they not likely to be correct?
2/ Sometimes, when you make a change to your golf it doesn't feel right or comfortable, but you are supposed to stick with it until it dose. Think about grip - did that feel comfortable the first time you held a club - it didn't for me.
3/ If you were after just squeezing a little more from your game, and this was made clear, I wonder why nobody said either "with your swing the way it is that's as good as your going to get, so we need to make so changes that are going to take a while to bed in"

My pro and teacher has always made it clear the he will only suggest 2 small incremental changes at a time and that he expects you to practice these changes before seeing him again. That is why it is often months between my lessons. I also go to him with something specific - I want straighter drives or more consistent irons or to banish my slice. Squeezing more from the game could focus on putting and getting more one putts and less 3 putts - no need to talk swing planes there.

Try hitting 4 balls thinking about mechanics and what you are trying to do then 4 balls thinking only on your target going through your full routine. Do this for a couple of visits to the range then change to 3/5 then 2/6 until eventually you are only focused on your target and the mechanics are ingrained.

Anyway if anyone knows of anyone ... that specialises in the one plane swing please let me know!

Check out RotarySwing.com website. A huge resource of video and articles both about the one-plane swing (Rotary Swing) and his more advanced Rotary Swing Tour.

A pro pal is a Jim Hardy Plane Truth certified coach for the one plane swing. In fact he's over in Houston this week with Jim Hardy doing his Level 2 qualifications which means I think he'll be one of only three pro's in Europe at that advanced level. He coaches several pro's on one plane swing plus of course lots of amateurs at all levels. If you are interested I can put you in touch with him.
