Issues with second set of irons (shaft length and bend)

Hi guys, with the summer approaching and after playing golf weekly now for almost a year I thought I'd treat myself to a second set of irons.

I purchased a set of Nike Slingshots off ebay and unfortunately I've noticed they possess some strange features (shown in the pictures below). There was no mention of any of this in the item description and have been told I can return them for a full refund, but I'll have to pay the shipping, so I'll lose some of my budget for a new set there.

The issues are the pitching wedge isn't straight and for some reason the clubs don't increase in length uniformly as the loft decreases (as my last set did), the 8 and 9 irons are longer than the 6 and 7 irons.

I take it this is an uncommon occurrence and the only explanation can be it's a mixed set of irons? (the 8 and 9 must of come from a lengthened set?).

Also are these issues repairable and do you guys have any idea of a ballpark figure? For the one club straightening and the length issues amending.

I would be looking for a full refund.

The bent shaft is knackered and needs replaced, and if the lengths are out of kilter, then something is seriously off.

Refund, including your postage costs, and don't take no for an answer.
 
The bent shaft will need replaced and for the others the best case I can think of is getting a pro to pull the shafts and then refit them so that the length progression is as it should be. Still going to cost a few £££.

I think E-Bay should offer some protection for this (including you getting postage covered) if you open a dispute or 'case' with them about it.
 
If I had bought those I would be very miffed,

You have 3 options
1, keep them and have them re shafted (not cheap)
2, Send them back and take a hit on postage, (there are cheaper operators than Parcelforce- Hermes for instance)
3, Open up a complaint with Ebay and insist that seller pays refund plus postage

Err, why do you feel that you need a second or spare set , if you are swapping your irons each week you are going to get in a right pickle

I never buy online and as this is what can happen , Ask for a full refund , don't take anything less , if it don't work then sell them on Ebay :)

A friend who's been playing with me this past year uses a set of old Howson's (missing a 7 and 3 iron) so needs a better set, he isn't too computer literate nor does he have the funds for the iron prices in the local retailers (even second hand sets). So I thought, since my current irons aren't in great condition, I'd give them him and purchase a new set (he'll pay for a few rounds).

Thanks for your replies guys, I've asked for the costs of returning the clubs, lets hope they agree.
 
No question for me here, E bay are quite good regarding miss selling. Open a case in the resolution center straight away. I purchased a Galvin Green windstopper which was advertised as only been worn once, it was filthy, stunk and there was evidence of many washes, within days I received a full refund including postage. I then messaged the resolution center asking where I was to return the top to, they told me to keep it (not that I really wanted it). If someone has conned you give it a try, you have nothing to loose. I would even question the authenticity of the clubs by the way you describe them..... Good luck.

Yep! Open case and demand full refund. Doesn't happen often. Ebay, quite properly in these cases, tend to take Buyers side.
 
I buy off ebay all the time. this kind of stuff is very rare!!


they do not fit description so full refund should be in order!!
 
Ignore the re-shafting advice. Send them back, full refund including postage, and don't stand any hassle from the seller. Sounds like you have bought a 'bent' set (no pun intended ;)). You should really only buy off ebay shops, and not individuals, as there are plenty of hooky sellers out there.
 
E Bay can be a minefield and sadly a playground for characters like you seem to have fell on. As stated the best policy is to buy off pro shops/dealers (AG and the likes do sell on there) on E Bay if you do want to use it, personally on the odd occasion I have purchased clubs, I make a habit of asking for the authentication number of the item, that is if they have one, from where they purchased the item and if they have a receipt I could view, a lot of positive feedback is also helpful. Any genuine seller will be happy to oblige as after alll they want to sell their goods but it soon puts off chancres.

There's something 'mutually exclusive' about not buying (from individuals) on Ebay, but happily selling there!:confused:

I've both bought and sold there quite happily - with very few problems, all of which were resolved.

That is appalling selling those clubs on ebay without a proper description, in the past ive bought quite a few sets off ebay and never experianced anything like that.I dont see why you should have to pay the postage to return them but if you want a refund I think thats all you can do.Hope this hasnt put you off in anyway as its rare to get a set as bad as that, golfers arnt generally dishonest people you've been unlucky :(
 
Unfortunately I have had a bad experience. Bought a Callaway driver about 7 years ago off a private seller, and knew it was a fake as soon as I opened the packet. The seller prevaricated for weeks, but finally got my money back, then reported him to ebay. If you look at the Golfbidder website you should find a section on fake clubs. I will send the link shortly.
