Is Mourinho trying to be too clever?

Probably not, especially if no new signings, and the injuries starting to stack up.

Did anyone say we would finish 3rd? Play nice now Paddy, and anyway I'm bored talking about us, this was about Mourinho/Chelsea and has slightly strayed to Man U.

Ok, on a more serious note.....

You make some good points, selling Mata to Utd could be a bit of a cock up, time will tell.

What I like about Mourinho is that he always wants to have a "small" (by modern standards) first team squad of 24 or so players.

This means he has good quality within that in all the players, The commentators today said he made 5 changes from their previous game but he's bringing in the likes of Matic, Ashley Cole, Schurrle etc. Not Ashley Young, Buttner or any number of unkown young French players at Arsenal.

There isn't any room for average players really so when he changes the team he doesn't necessarily weaken it which isn't always the case with the other clubs.

Lukaku is really streaky, I think he will be a very good player but not good enough to carry a title chasing front line......yet. He thrived at WBA as he was top dog in a team punching above their weight.

Whilst Mata is a wonderful player, who can argue when seeing Oscar & Hazard in there.

Chelsea will be 2nd behind City. Utd will be 5th, as long as Rooney & RVP are back pronto

No it was another scouse die hard who had you down for 3rd. I think its a straight fight for 4th between , Spurs, LFC, mancs and everton are still keeping up the pace.

I couldn't agree with you more.

Do you think Mourinho has made a boob with Mata - letting him go to Man U?

They don't play UTD again, Mata was hardly playing . You could see from Lampard interview today he was a well liked guy around the club. I guess he'd rather he was away from the club than be a unsettling influence at the bridge? Man U a re not a threat to Chelsea any more this year so I guess it makes sense take to the decent moiney on offer

The Chelsea squad, and Man Utd to a degree needs rebuilding. Lampard, Terry Cole, Torres all getting on or beginning to show a loss of form. Utd just don't gel as a team and while there are some youngsters, there isn't the presence of a Keane or Robson. Everton are always shy to spend, Liverpool are a couple of world class players from being very close. Wenger is a cagey old fox but again the Arsenal squad lacks quality in depth. City will splash the cash to get the job done. Whether they can then keep all the egos in the box next season is another question

Yes, man U wont catch Chelsea this year, but Man U wont be this bad again next year.

Robobum, Lukaku is streaky, but in Jose's first Chelsea sojourn they weren't averse to using route one when it suited, and Drogba's strength and aerial ability (when it suited him) was a part of that. I still think that Lukaku in the Chelsea team this year would have seen them at least 6 points better off, if not 10, which would have put them put in front of everyone and not just with his goals contibution, but with his hold up play and pace to scare defenders also.

I think Mourinho has really dropped a ball here by really making Man Utd a much better team.
That, coupled with the fact that amongst the 34 players Chelsea have out on loan, (that's right, 34 players out on loan), are Chelsea's best striker, (Lukaku), and their best goalkeeper, (Courtois).
He's too much "Oooohhh, look at me, I'm Jose Mourinho".

Both those players have been loaned out for two years, I don't recall it being ohh look at me I'm AVB?

that said, the 34 players out on loan always makes me chuckle when I hear if their small squad.

Lampard isn't really an issue as they've got more than enough quality in MF.

As much as Mata will improve Manu this/ next year, you'd have to think Chelsea will cough a ton of cash for more players aswel.

Not sure how that relates to the bit in bold in my post?

Crazy number of players on loan, he always works with a squad of 24 or so players though at the club.

I'm not convinced by Lukaku as a very top level player. Seems one of these whose reputation is enhanced by what he isn't doing for Chelsea. He is only young though.

Courtois is an interesting one. For me he is probably going to be the best keeper in the world soon, some might say he is already. Will be a mistake I think they let him go as Cech is going to need replacing soon.

The fact that Jose chased Oscar @ Real Madrid and made it clear that his Chelsea team would revolve around him put the kibosh on lumping it to Lukaku.
He'll be good, just not ready yet imo

He would have had the authority to recall them, of that I'm sure.
I think the maximum length of a loan is for a season, then, I believe, it has to be re-negotiated, but I may be wrong.

yiu can can moan for longer, although I do belive both were renewed. But both were good enough last season and still got loaned out. Lukaku may be off, but I'd expect courtois in goal next year
