Spireites are my lower div 'follow' team as HID is from Chesterfield. Did once go to Saltergate getting on 20yrs yrs ago and couldn't believe the wooden bench I was sat on in rhs of the main standand was at Old Trafford for the 3-3 1997 FA Cup semi against Middlesborough - what a game! Kevin Davies ripping Boro to pieces down rhs - and the ball was over the line!!
Yes our finest memory at Old Trafford and you are correct what a game it was, I was behind the goal where we scored 2 of our goals but not Jamie Hewitts injury time equaliser, I was sat right behind where Jonathan Howards shot was over the line and called it then that it was over but when you saw the reply it was even more clear cut. How he hit the bar from around 6 yards out is another matter but still it was a goal and cost us a place against Chelsea in the final. Kev Davies was a really good player and when he changed his style to a more muscle bound CF at Bolton people tend to forget how good a player he actually was.
